Yet another...

i just saw an ad on tv.

reply

Yes, yet another good tv show to watch. Exciting, isn't it?

reply

There has been. For 3 years now.

reply

Even that version borrows heavily from The Canterville Ghost.

reply

Well, it is one thing to find inspiration in literature. It is a completely different matter blatantly copying something word for word just because your people can't be bothered with a different (albeit - correct) accent.

reply

True. But then the did that with early The Office episodes but then it evolved into it's own thing which was a worthwhile comedy edition.

Maybe this will be the same?

reply

Maybe. But The Office is an exception to the rule. It, generally, only worked with competitions and reality tv.

"We have really everything in common with America nowadays, except, of course, language."

We can't seem to get enough of your accents in period pieces, though.

reply

"Now, some of you may have difficulty with my accent. Of course, technically, I don't have an accent. I'm English. This is just how things sound when they are pronounced properly." - Jimmy Carr

I, on the other hand, do have an accent. To me, English is a second language. Haven't even been to an English speaking country. To me, even a western is a period piece. :)

reply

Ah, my mistake.

Americans mostly defer to Brits as more proper. But there's an urban legend that Shakespearean English is pronounced more like American English because Imperial Britain was bringing so many more people/accents into the mix. I had a Singaporean physics teacher who constantly switched between Received Pronunciation & a Chinese accent.

More proper? If football were more popular in the States, they'd change their mind. :)

reply

Simple as.
