I don't think the themes were totally about ''race''...


Otherwise why would one of the characters turn into one of the creatures? that really doesn't fall within a race based analogy. To me this seemed more about poverty and class conflict

Yeah it wasn't about race, it was about species. And species bigotry is acceptable.

Think about the book "Black Like Me" ... it was about seeing the world from the point of view of the "other".

because he is learning to see things from another race/ethnic groups "eyes"...and how he is being treated by others when he is turning, just because he looks slightly like them. where previously he dehumanized them and saw them as literally animals (prawns)

I mean it could be little mix of all that for sure though
