The UN mission failure


I read that as an US sabotage of the mission - although it was not explicit in the movie the timing and everything about it lead me to that conclusion.

I think it was more of a comment on the bureaucracy of the UN will always mean they are too late to be effective. They had 6 months and they attempted to launch just a few days before impact.

Well, they didn't bother for a while because initially they have hopped that USA will blow it up, as planned. So it's not quite UN fault , although they are indeed shortsighted and should have had a backup solution in case the US mission falis.

I got the same vibes there as well. While I can't claim any definitive proof of sabotage, it did strike me as fairly certain to be the case.
