How does this get such a good critic rating?

Well, I just saw it and I like it a lot. It's about a somewhat screwed up guy and a small town sheriff's office, in way over their heads with what we see early on as a genuine werewolf. The trailer represents it pretty fairly except that the film has a more uneven tone, with grimly humorous stuff that is oddly effective. Everybody is good in it and it is technically excellent. People who dislike it are probably annoyed by either the attitude or by the nature of the resolution... Avoiding anything spoilery.

It's a decent little film that mixes horror, mystery, and comedy pretty well. Perhaps there are so few new releases out there that it's getting a bit more praise than it should.

I rate it 6.5/10, not bad but not great, some decent performances in there, especially by the star and director Jim Cummings and also Robert Forster.
