I stopped watching WWE IN May 2021 and do not miss it. Thank God for AEW!

Definitely seems like WWE is rebounding while AEW seems to have no direction. They are building up some talent like Swerve, but the slow boil needs other top-tier stories to help round out its direction.

CM Punk going in causing a ruckus and then bailing to WWE was a real crap-heel move, and it really did (and does) make him look like a punk.

Punk's 1st promo when he came back to RAW citing "I'm Home" when he crapped on his home every chance he could get when he was with Tony Khan did make him look like a total hypocrite and so much, it must be a prerequisite to dump on the WWE when you jump to another promotion??

reply

Yeah, and the crowd's response to him back in WWE has been rightfully mixed. I also really like that Seth got way more cheers because everything he said was identical to what Hangman said, and both of them are right.

You make an excellent point that CM Punk said he was "home", even though he spent the better part of a decade absolutely crapping on the WWE and wrestling, and then did the same when he got to AEW.

It's bizarre people would welcome him back with open arms, but the reaction that Seth got when he pointed out that CM Punk was a hypocrite definitely seemed to indicate that more people agree with Seth than CM Punk.

reply

Fans welcome him back because they know it's pro wrestling and it's fixed

I really like AEW but don't have any way to compare to the early days as I only started watching it this summer. I watched wrestling loads in the 90s but stopped in 2000. if it really has gone downhill then that's a shame, it must have been great because I really enjoy it as it is now.

I've still been watching pre-2000 wrestling for years but the only present day wrestling I watched was the very occasional dip into WWE, and I never enjoyed it and didn't feel the need to watch any more than a bit of an ep of raw every few years. although I really wanted to enjoy it.

bought AEW Fight Forever this year when it came out because it reminded me of the N64 THQ games which were such a massive part of my childhood and that got me into watching AEW. I've been hooked since then and watch every show and all the ppvs.

I think what I like so much about it is that it reminds me of WCW which I loved back in the day. I always hated that WCW died and I assumed that the bits of WWE I had seen were so bad because there was no longer any competition to keep them hot.

AEW to me feels like it was made by someone, who like me, was a fan of WCW. I've been dying for a promotion like this to appear for a long time, and I get a major nostalgia kick whenever I hear sting and schiavone speak, I love it haha!

as for cm punk I had heard of him despite not watching wrestling but I knew nothing about him. first I saw of him was this year in AEW and tbh I couldn't stand him and found his mic time boring, when he fucked up and got the boot I was happy and don't feel like the product is suffering without him at all.
