Nice to see

Hallmark actually had an actress who plays string instruments to play a string instrument. It may not sound that important, but it's annoying in these movies because they rarely fake it well.

Torrey DeVitto did a great job in this! I wasn't sure if she was actually playing at first, but I looked it up and she was.

I enjoyed this movie, but I like her earlier Hallmark Christmas movie, Best Christmas Party Ever, even more.

I had to fake playing a viola in a stage production once. A woman who knew how to play showed me how to hold it and the bow, and how to finger and bow. We muted the strings with felt so I wouldn't actually make any sounds, then I attempted to synchronize my movements to the music that was being played. It ain't easy!

I've seen a few of these Christmas movies where they have someone playing a violin, and it's rarely done well. It takes a long time to learn to hold the instruments properly. I can usually tell with the wrist and where the bow rests on the instrument.

I know it's a nit picky thing, and I don't usually complain when I see it done badly, but the second I saw Torrey play I was sure it she could play and had to go check.

I hear ya. My siblings and I all play piano. (We took lessons for years.) We used to laugh at the way Susan Dey and Shirley Jones faked their keyboard playing on The Partridge Family. They made it seem as though the keys were really difficult to press down so they needed to use all their upper body strength. 🤣

Sometimes we notice other actors in contemporary productions using a similar technique. LOL!

Hahaha, when I first started playing piano I had watched so many shows where they did that, and I copied it. I got in trouble for putting shoulders into it. I thought it looked really theatrical. I was so wrong! 🤣🤣

I’m rewatching Victoria. Jenna Coleman as Queen Victoria is “playing piano” in ep01.03 as Prince Albert arrives at Buckingham Palace. She is using her shoulders, her chest and her back! It’s too much! That piano must be nailed to the floor, lol.

reply

I haven't seen it yet. I shall look for that.
