ROGUE SQUADRON DEAD?

Might be BS but maybe not

Rogue Squadron is not just delayed. The Patty Jenkins movie is dead and will not be picked up again. Moreover, Taika Waititi’s Star Wars movie is also at risk.

According to this SR article, it has not been taken off its release date. Though there could still be issues behind-the-scenes.

There are always issues behind the scenes, some of them result in a better finished project. I really hope we get to see this, but not as much as I hope we get to see a Taika Waititi Star Wars project!

I love his work, absolutely love it, and while I know he can't possibly get as weird and absurd as his "Thor" movies, because Star Wars is always serious on the surface, but he did direct what may be my favorite scene in the whole "Mandalorian". Remember, during the final critical battle, two bored Stormtroopers sit around and argue, while getting occasional crackling updates about the horrible season finale battle going a few miles away. It was hilarious, and a totally original way to deal with the cliffhanger end of the previous episode, and I want more scenes like this in "Star Wars".

Is that even still happening? I remember them announcing it then not much else. Maybe we'll hear more after Thor: Love and Thunder comes out.

Some people here don't understand how the "Development Hell" process works. Projects are announced, then someone changes their mind about something and it's off, but whoever wants it to happen is still pushing it, so later it gets funded again, but this time as a streaming miniseries and not a feature film... repeat with variations for 10 or more years.

I hope it happens. Waititi has been hot shit in Hollywood for the last few years, and I think he's a genuinely talented filmmaker, and one who knows just what I like! He also knows how to play the game, so if anyone can get his pet project through Development Hell it's him.

Well, that sucks.

Eh, standard Development Hell stuff. Sometimes projects can be kicking around for years, having the scripts re-written and budgets granted and cancelled, announcements of cancellation made and then the project being given new life and the hope of a budget after the next rewrite...

It's harder on the writers and directors than on any fans who might be hoping to see the finished project, but it's called "Development Hell" because it's miserable for everyone.
