Kate's American accent

I'm not minding this show, so far, but the first episode all I could think of Kate's accent was that she sounded like she should be in the movie Fargo.

reply

Having previously lived in PA long enough to know what they sound like, let me assure you that Kate sounds NOTHING like the other people do who live up there in NORTH DAKOTA (an accent which FRANCES also tried to imitate in Fargo).

reply

I didn't notice it so much in episode two, so maybe in the first episode she was still trying to hit her stride with it.

reply

What area are you from?

Her accent doesn't bother me at all. She sounds pretty much like she does in Titanic or in other films.

Of course I'm also so engaged in what's also going on in the story that listening to her accent while watching it doesn't even occur to me.

reply

They're all attempting a Philly area accent, but they fade in and out.

I dated a girl from Kensington, and her mother sounded just like Mare's mother.

reply

Just out of curiosity, how does your residence in Pennsylvania convince you the character doesn't sound like people in North Dakota? These states are not close. Fargo (on the eastern edge of ND) is 1100 miles from Pittsburgh on the western side of Pennsylvania.

reply

Unless, of course, I'm misunderstanding your post and you are saying she sounds more like she comes from Pennsylvania. If that is what you mean, I apologize for misunderstanding you.

Sorry for the confusion. I don't live in the PITTSBURG area of PA anymore. But to me KATE doesn't sound like she's from either PA or from ND. Because people in the PITTSBURG area also use to say that something "NEEDS WASHED" instead of saying that it "needs washing," or "Needs to be WASHED."

And Frances also sounded like she tried to sound like she was from ND, but anyone who's from there probably also could tell that she was not.

Does that make sense???

Hope that helps!!!

reply

Yes. Interesting on creek/crick. That happens around where I live (Nebraska), though it is far from universal. I'd say about 30% say crick instead of creek.

reply

Different areas always have little sayings like that which you usually won't hear an actress saying in a film (unless maybe they're actually from the area).

I'm also betting that we'll never hear anyone saying something "NEEDS WASHED" or saying CRICK in this story.

But who knows???

Isn't the place where Erin was found also named some kind of a CREEK that starts with the letter C???

the series’ first hour concludes with the pale, limp body of Erin McMenamin (identified by her blue fingernail polish) laying in a Chester County creek.

But also can't recall anyone pronouncing it or saying CRICK instead of CREEK.

Since your reply makes NO SENSE whatsoever (in response back to what's been said), I'd also ASK you what you mean, but a check of your profile indicates that would most likely also be a complete waste of time -- due to the way that you've also been giving the SAME REPLY for the past 4 MONTHS:
