I thought Dan White was in the right

He had to do something drastic to prove his point. I didn't like seeing Milk getting killed, I kind of grew to like his personality, but Dan White had more to him. He had good points in the movie, I agreed with all of them and then at the end when he had that emotional blow, it was too much for him. However, I don't agree with any killings, but he was out of his mind...

I like cats named nightmare. I have a "nightmare" every night!

I agree with you. Dan White had resigned the previous week & was wanting to return to work, but when Mayor George Moscone disagreeing (with Harvey Milk's nudging) White was avenging his occupation loss! Mayor, George Moscone was responsible with letting Jim Jones leave USA for the Peoples Temple, by an airplane & the cult suicides, that occurred in Guyana, South America, 9 days earlier, on Saturday, November 18th, 1978! White assassinated Moscone & Milk on Monday, November 27th, 1978, during the 8 AM or 9 AM hour. Diane Feinstein, (the next mayor of San Francisco) was the first that saw the "2 carcasses".

You are exactly what the NSA was designed for.

"He had to something drastic to prove his point".

That is one of the most evil sentences that I have read in a long time.

He quit for the wrong reasons and let all his people down who had supported him. He should never been involved in politics.

reply

I suppose you also think the people who shot MLK, John Kennedy, Bobby Kennedy, Lincoln, etc. were "In the right"?

Please.... look into some therapy or sensitivity training or something... At the very least, please don't reproduce.

reply

Dan White was a cold blooded assassin and should have gotten life for his crimes.

White submitted his resignation from the board and it had been accepted. According to the city charter he couldn't just rescind that and from what I've read Moscone wasn't sure if he could either.

Considering that by this time Dan White had shifted his positions and had apparently become harder and harder to work with Moscone was right, and entitled, to refuse to rescind the resignation, even if he could.

Harvey Milk also became the focus of his wrath and so he exacted his revenge on both of them.

reply

He was killing tyrants tho. So his killing were as just as any regicide during a revolt.

reply

He had to do something drastic to prove his point

But it was the WRONG thing to do. If Dan White had just kept his cool and waited it out, George Moscone and Harvey Milk would have gone down in disgrace as the enablers of Jim Jones and his psychopath cult, rather than the gunned-down martyrs that they are.

reply

Lots of people were "enablers". Jim Jones conned MANY people. Very few people would come to the thinking that somehow Moscone and Milk were ALIGNED with Jones in any meaningful fashion. There are probably thousands of cults existing amongst us now, which have leaders who have conned the *parishioners* and the society members/neighbors around them. Unless one of them gets in the news (as the Branch Davidians, etc.) when some violence has taken place, we wouldn't know they exist.

Yes, we wouldn't be talking about Dan White either if he hadn't gunned down the mayor and a council member. Most disgruntled politicians either come back stronger or find another line of work.

Again, the OP's message is vapid and evil.

Milk's defense of Jim Jones, however, was especially odious:

President Jimmy Carter
The White House
Washington, D.C. 20500

Dear President Carter:

I am the Supervisor for District Five in the City of San Francisco. The Peoples Temple Christian Church is not located in my District, so I have no political ties or obligations to this church. I am writing to call an urgent concern of theirs to your attention. I am concerned at what I understand is the endorsement of some of our Congressmen for the efforts of Timothy Stoen against Rev. Jim Jones and the Peoples Temple. There are some facts I feel you should be informed of:

Rev. Jones is widely known in the minority communities here and elsewhere as a man of the highest character, who has undertaken constructive remedies for social problems which have been amazing in their scope and effectiveness. He is also highly regarded amongst church, labor, and civic leaders of a wide range of political persuasions. Our own Board of Supervisors has presented Rev. Jones with a Certificate of Honor, unanimously passed by all members, praising the church for its many projects "which have been so beneficial to all the citizens of the Bay Area." On the same occasion, he was also presented with a unanimously passed resolution by a Republican State Senator, Milton Marks representing that legislative body.

Timothy and Grace Stoen, the parties that are attempting to damage Rev. Jones' reputation, and seriously disrupt the life of his son, John, have both already been discredited in the news media here. The most widely-read columnist in the area, Herb Caen, printed Mr. Stoen's sworn testimony that John is not his child but rather Rev. Jones. Grace Stone is reported involved in what could be considered a blackmail attempt against another leader in the minority community, Dennis Banks, reported in the two major dailies with her name also given in Mr. Banks' sworn affadavit about the attempt.

It is outrageous that Timothy Stoen could even think of flaunting this situation in front of our Congressmen with apparently bold-faced lies. I have learned in addition, that he has pressured these Congressmen towards unwitting compliance with promoting State Department intervention in the custody case now pending in Guyana.

Not only is the life of a child at stake , who presently has loving protective parents in Rev. and Mrs. Jones, but our official relations with Guyana could stand to be jeopardized, to the potentially great embarassment of our State Department.

Mr. President, the actions of Mr. Stoen need to be brought to a halt. It is offensive to most in the San Francisco community, and all those who know Rev. Jones to see this kind of an outrage taking place.

Respectfully,

(Signed, 'Harvey Milk')

Harvey Milk

Well considering Dan White was my old supervisor I found it kind of odd that Jim Jones would rant about a 'white knight' to purify San Francisco. And honestly, I did feel a bit of pride when White blew up that gutless Moscone & the rather conniving Milk.

Why can't you wretched prey creatures understand that the Universe doesn't owe you anything!?

reply

You find it odd because Dan White was YOUR old supervisor? Or that he was indeed a 'white knight". Your meaning is obscure
Disturbing (to say the least about it) that you are willing to proclaim "pride" for murderous acts. So it would have been okay for White to be assassinated if some murdering yokel though he was conniving and gutless?

reply

Well back in the day the blue collar residents of White's district always thought Moscone to be two faced & ineffectual...so more like a case of 'good riddance'.

Why can't you wretched prey creatures understand that the Universe doesn't owe you anything!?

reply

White's district always had the vote option or could have come up with a better candidate.

reply

The district felt it's votes were 'outweighed' by other disticts in SF.

Why can't you wretched prey creatures understand that the Universe doesn't owe you anything!?

"And honestly, I did feel a bit of pride when White blew up that gutless Moscone & the rather conniving Milk."

You seemed willing to be a rep for those folks who felt Dan White was in the right so I wanted to know the reasons why anyone would assassinate/murder a fellow human being. As usual, it is all *beep* reasons.
To sum it up, you feel White was in the right because Moscone and Milk had too much power over one district (or many) and the only recourse was death for them. AND if White had to go down for this (family without a father, prison, suicide) it was worth it because Moscone was gutless and Milk was conniving.

Oh never mind...People like you and the OP exist and there is no getting around that fact.

reply

Frankly, Dan White WAS in the right politically, in the sense that George Moscone and Harvey Milk were sleazy and corrupt.

And people like you, willing to excuse such sleaze and corruption simply because he's your gay icon, exist as well.

reply

Stay focused.

Most politicians do not kill their rivals.
Most people don't applaud them when they do.

reply

It's their own fault for putting the screws to someone who is not used to that kind of treatment and doesn't know how to handle it. Crooked politicians assume every politician is crooked and are okay with that type of behavior.

This is another reason why corruption is bad. It turns injustices into revenge. So in a case like this, the people who put the wheels in motion are more responsible for the action than the reactions.

reply

Dan White eventually committed suicide.

reply

So if you resign your job of your own free will, and don't get it back on a when you ask because nobody you worked with wants you back... you think that makes it okay to commit multiple murders?

THIS is why some of us want gun control so badly! So many fucking stupid entitled loons out there.

reply

Agree. The support for White on this thread is unfuckingbelievable. But they were all IMDb posts. Yeah, that was part of the greatness of IMDb message boards that every wacko could express himself.

reply

Hey, plenty of wackos expressing themselves right here! Sometimes I even argue with them myself, when I'm in a mood to kick someone in the teeth (with words) and I want a deserving target.

I think some of these assholes are trolling, but others... are serving as proof of how badly gun control is needed. They really do want guns so they can kill when they get pissed off, kill easily.
