Why did the host give Jamal the wrong answer to the question?

What was his motivation? Was he jealous? Did he not like Jamal? What gives?

I just re-watched the last hour on Showtime. What a great film! It's even more meaningful to me now since I visited India (including Mumbai) and Nepal in 2013.

BTW I loved the way the host said "Who wants to be a MILLEN-aire?" Also the way he said
20 million Rupeeeeee (s).

If you read the book, you find out they did not have the money to cover the winnings. They did not think anyone would win for a long time and would have time for the show to earn the money.

Aha! Thanks. I didn't know there was a book.

As far as the film is concerned the show not having the money to cover the winnings has nothing to do with it. In the film, the host was the ONLY millionaire winner the show had ever had, and he wanted to keep it that way. Jealousy, vindictiveness, and selfish greed.

Okay then. Thanks.
