Really great movie definitely deserving a nomination for best motion picture of the year, but The Dark Knight was a superior film and got robbed of at least a nomination.

Slumdog is worthwhile to watch, but was definitely over-hyped when it won. Dark Knight felt fresh, innovative, smart, and exciting. Almost the perfect movie.
Also robbed was The Wrestler, which should have won out of the 5 nominated. That movie was brilliant and stayed with me long after I watched it. But I guess because it wasn't connected with any trendy issues, it wasn't a contender to win.
I'm still puzzled how Slumdog received THREE song nominations while Bruce Springsteen's song was completely shut out.
I think Dark Knight deserved a nomination, but it's hard to argue Slumdog winning.
shareI can't agree. I've always felt like the Dark Knight series was particularly overrated and taken much more seriously than it was worth. The Dark Knight was a good action movie that was ambitious to try and transcend its comic book origins, but it still didn't end up being as thought provoking and consistently entertaining as Slumdog Millionaire.

imo the fuel that carried dark knight was the hype surrounding christopher nolan (deserved btw) and the mass shooting that occurred in colorado. the film received massive publicity from that. people mistake popularity with quality. yes DK was a well made film but it's still a comic book movie.
i dare say had the shooting not happened it would've had regular if not marginal levels of viewership/notariety.
