The Box-Office proves one thing...

If the story would have been great this movie would make 2 billion dollars. Since the characters themself make alot of money.

reply

Actually, all the box office proves is that they cannot do with worldwide icons what their direct competition can do with B and C list heroes. And teaming them up does not help the way it should be. All the box office is showing is everything WB is doing WRONG.

reply

sad but true.

Yeah, WB making it wrong is what I wanted to say Imagine this movie getting great reception and good word of mouth and making the money it's making right now.. With a great Story and better planning WB and DC would get more money than MARVEL with their "phase 1" I'm just saying that WB screwed this up by rushing to the Justice League and not taking their time. This movie could have more money than Avengers but it's still impressive the money it made.

reply

I think they are still hurting from the BvS backlash and from the mixed critic reviews of JL. But fan reviews and ratings are pretty high, so maybe JL will finish stronger than the early numbers seem to indicate.

reply

It will probably make $600-$700 million. More is doubtful in my opinion.

See, THERE'S the problem. Let's stop worrying about how they're doing compared to Marvel....are they doing the source material ....ahem....justice? No. Snyder said in interviews that he was interested in deconstructing heroes and felt that was why audiences did not respond to his vision. The problem to me is two fold:

1) You have to CONSTRUCT before you DEconstruct. Going into your first movie in tear down move is just wrong headed.

2) nowadays, in the world we live in, people want heroes to inspire them, not trouble them. They don't want to be seeing heroes that are troubling and not heroic. MoS showed us a Superman who didn't even want to be Superman and did things that would not have had the people championing him. In BvS, we had more of the same AND we had a Batman who was more troubled and unstable than we'd ever seen him AND we had a Wonder Woman who, at best, sat out the last century instead of...you know....inspiring people to be better than the atrocities we've seen in that century.

Look. I was watching the Robert Kirkman Secret History of Comics (or whatever that's called) on AMC last night and they brought up Spider-Man. Now, the first Spider-Man was not a great film, sorry to say. BUT, it came out at THE right time and told the story of a hero we could get behind when we needed a hero on film we could get behind. While the world is maybe not as dire now as it was then (MAYBE), we're not at a point when we need a depressing Superman or Batman. I;m not saying DC should have made it the Super-Friends, but their universe needs to be.....hopeful.

Maybe if WB never made BvS...

But at this point BOTH Batman and Superman are Damaged characters

Batman was a proven Billion dollar character in The movies before Snyder got ahold of him....Now after BvS and JL....Batman is an unknown, still A Box office earner but unknown

Matt Reeves The Batman, Will now certainly have a new actor in the role and will probably want to distances itself from The DCEU, So it will either be a complete reboot or just be a complete solo film and make no reference to any other DC characters....But at this point, due to the damage BvS and JL has done to Batman, you got to wonder what a Batman movie can do now post Snyder....

I'd say that given the best circumstances, GIven That Matt Reeves knocks in out of the park, The film is Great, gets great reviews, The new actor playing Batman is liked...given the best case scenario..I think The movie Will have a HUGE decrease and make between 500 to 700 Million at most

IMO I think Its going to take several Good to Great Batman movies to gain audiences trust back and build the character back to its Billion Dollar + status that it had before Snyder got ahold of Batman

Superman again Is A box office earner but unknown going forward, moving forward the best way to go is to reboot with a new actor....Cavil has been good, but there is no way around it, Audiences have been divided on Snyders Dark, depressing and joyless Superman in 3 straight films now, also you cant ignore the fact that Superman has been in 3 straight films that all under performed in MOS,BvS and JL

in the future, I dont think A potential Superman/MOS sequel is possible with Cavil in the role, the damage is done, there is too much divide

I see a MoS 2 or Superman sequel with Cavil making between 500 to 600 Million

The Superman and Batman characters are by far the biggest Superheros ever, but unfortunately due to Snyder delivering visions of the characters that were so divisive, They are no longer the biggest CB Movie earners.

You don't think they can make it work with Cavill? You would think a lot of recasting changes would have a poorer effect on some of these films. You can probably get away with it for Batman, but Superman not so sure. MOS is the most successful superman since Superman 2, why not just continue to adjust the character and perhaps get a solid film out like Thor did. Thor was pretty much the worst MCU solo character and its going to finish with 800 + mil film with the same lead as the previous 2 not so great Thor films. I would think a well made non Snyder influenced MOS2 could replicate that result.

WB could go forward With Cavil, But its just not worth it

He's been in 3 universally Divisive Films, Audiences are 50/50 Spilt on Him,Hes been in 3 straight films that have under performed

at this point, WB has to complete distance The Superman and Batman From Snyder Disastrous 3 films

I think if WB went forward With A MOS2/Superman sequel With Cavil, If the movie had a new director, new creative team and They nailed it, I still think The movie would suffer, right Now Audiences are just OUT, I think Cavil is a fantastic Superman, But given just how Divisive his 3 Superman films have been, A Superman Sequel With Cavil can't reach its box office potential, Too much of the audience would be OUT(nearly Half The people that saw BvS, didnt come back for JL, that is An Audience simply being OUT)

for example, The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spiderman 2 were 2 films that BOTH disappointed, TASM didnt really bring anything new, and TAM2 were a disaster, Those films under performed, and TASM2 was universally rejected

Sony at the time was all in on A Spidey Universe, they already had 3 Spinoffs greenlit with release dates, but TASM2 was so bad, So filled With Universe building Plot points that people just didnt like, The film failed in every way

Sony knew it couldn't go foward after TASM2, They knew based on The reception of the last 2 Spiderman films, An Amazing Spiderman 3 would perform even worse.

Spiderman films are always going to make money, but Sony was looking at an Amazing Spider-Man 3 making between 550 to 650 Million after TASM2, The damage was done

Sony made an incredible choice, The put all egos aside, Instantly put on hold 3 spin off and The Spidey Universe and decided to reboot

It resulted in Audiences being excited again, The Awful taste of TASM and TASM2 is forgotten, Homecoming made almost 900 Million.

They are now going forward with spinoffs, now that Audiences are on board and excited again

A Superman Sequel With Cavil would absolutely make money, just not what WB wants and not its potential, after MOS,BvS and JL...A Superman Sequel is guilty by Association, There is just going to be such a large part of the audience that wont even be interested as soon as they see Cavil in The role.

for WB to go forward with Cavil, They literally got to make a decision to make a new TRILOGY...They got to come to the conclusion and except that, we aren't going to make the money we want with the first film(Or maybe even the second film)...The goal would have to be to Get a Great Director,New creative team, and HOPE they make a great movie that gets excellent reviews and give audiences the Superman they want and would result in Audiences being excited again and getting Audiences trust back for SEQUELS

but they would know the first film wouldnt perform that well, A lot of audiences wouldnt even see the film until Blu Ray or TV....but if the film was great, that audience would show up in theaters for Sequels...

Its like with The Transformers Franchise, The Transformers Franchise is in bad shape, The quality of their films finally caught up to them, Audiences are just Out...The next Transformers movie could be great and its going to still badly under perform.

Its going to take several very good films, not directed by Micheal Bay to gets Audiences trust back again and to Get Transformers films box office back

WB absolutely could go forward with Cavil...its just not worth it....The damage is done, A rebooted Superman is easier and would definitely be more Successful box office wise.

reply

Hypothetically speaking, Given The Best case Scenarios, A rebooted Superman Would be much more successful than A Superman with Cavil

If WB Rebooted Superman and KILLED it, If they got a great director, got a great actor in the role of Superman, the film got great reviews and was loved....

Or If WB went forward With Cavil and KILLED it, got a big name director, they final got Superman right(Bright,Happy joyful), the film got great reviews and was loved...

theres simply no question which film would be more successful....rebooted Superman BRINGS in a Much Bigger Audience,,,There is such a large portion of the audience that are just OUT after MOS,BvS and JL, again Maybe A 2nd or 3rd Superman movie with Cavil would gain that Audience back...but the first movie would have to be fanatic.

TASM3 could have brought in a new director, could have been great, got great reviews, It still would not have Performed as well as Homecoming...NOt after TASM2.

the facts are simply, Its not worth going forward With Cavil(Its Possible and WB could even have success) but Rebooting Superman easily results in More success
