They witnessed the boy getting executed as soon as the vine touched him.

A last ditch effort to escape would have been to wrap vines around rocks and bombard the natives until they leave or kill each others.

They addressed that in the book. They reasoned that the Mayans would probably start shooting all of them if they tried.

They could've escaped by remaining at the hotel, where Laura Ramsey would've hung her tits and ass out on a regular basis

Regrettable that she retired from acting. Girl was a scrumptious piece of ass in almost every movie she starred in

We could've used a lot more of Laura Ramsey naked in this movie also. Such details are always a welcome sight

Sadly it was inescapable. And movie became boring when you understand that in the middle. That you will just watch them all die one by one.

They let brunette to escape. Because plot need closure. But in no way those natives would miss out on her and let her escape. There was too many of them.
