No Targaryen Was Going to Rule Again

Both Daenerys and John Snow were huge red herrings. House Targaryen was completely overthrown and driven out of Westeros and for that reason neither Daenerys nor John Snow had a legitimate claim to the Iron Throne. Nobody in Westeros wanted a return to Targaryen rule and since there was no respect or love for that house, the only way Daenerys could rule Westeros was through death and fear. It's possible that John Snow could have had some support, but only as Ned Starks bastard. His true Targaryen lineage would have to remain a closely guarded secret.

I was hoping if Jon did stick around, he would go by Jon Stark. Dany should have done that for him the same time she did it for Gendry.

reply

Jon's new red-headed step child will rule the Seven Kingdoms in the sequel, I hear.

reply

Who is John Snow?

reply

John Snow = Jon Snow

Earth's first real anesthesiologist, and a pioneering epidemiologist.

No, really! He has a prominent place in the history of meficine.

Targs were the Plantagenets of this story, and for a time Lannister and Stark were Lancaster and York.

Well it's not like Bran's going to rule either, he's just going to sit there and stare into space while other people actually run things.

Tyrion is the real ruler now.

reply

Like Queen Elizabeth II. At least he’s not a Targ.

reply

So in a way, the story is about the decline of the monarchy and the rise of civil service types.

NOT the beginnings of democracy.

reply

What they have is close to a monarchy with a royal council. At some point the royal council could develop into a kind of parliament. Also, the people need to have a role by at least electing representatives to parliament.
