So who was Salt?
Salt was obviously a sleeper agent. But did she have a profound change of heart and now she is loyal to the U.S.? It was never explained in the movie.

Apparently there was a sequel planned for the film, since it was a big box office hit, and Jolie really killed it in the role. I would have definitely watched a sequel just for her, and maybe that would have explained the plot hole. Here's an article about the planned sequel, and there was even a TV series that was going to be based on Salt too, but both fell through:
