Final Thoughts On The DCEU Era

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehJT4J3exio

John and the crew discuss their thoughts on the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) which was a shared universe centered on a series of superhero films and a television series produced by DC Studios and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.

I genuinely enjoyed most of the DCEU movies better than most. But there's no getting around it. They never had a solid plan for a cinematic universe and couldn't stick with a specific style. It's too bad since I generally like the cast they assembled for these movies (Lex Zuckerberg being a major exception).

Honestly, the only one who seemed to have a plan (not saying it was a good one!) was Snyder. But it became apparent pretty quickly that it needed 'correcting' (IOW abandoning). I did enjoy some of them. The two highlights for me were Wonder Woman and The Flash, but neither of those was a 10/10.

I'd rank them (starting from the top),

Wonder Woman
The Flash
Man of Steel
Batman v Superman
Aquaman
Wonder Woman 1984
Shazam
Suicide Squad
Justice League
(TC)

I didn't see Birds of Prey, The Suicide Squad, Black Adam, Shazam 2, Blue Beetle or Aquaman 2 (you can pretty much tell where I lost patience with the DCEU šŸ˜‚). I'll catch Shazam 2, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman 2 whenever they turn up on the box. No interest in the others.

Honestly, there isn't a single entry I would call great (and as a huge DC fan that hurts).

Iā€™d consider Suicide Squad 2 as the best of the bunch and probably my favorite superhero movie in the last five years;certainly since COVID began.

50/50 good and bad. I'll be forever grateful for the ZS cut of Justice League. Without it, I think the whole mess would have been pretty forgettable.
