Overrated?

Ok... it's been 7-8 years or so since this was released... Is it overrated? as a movie?

I'd say yes. I was one of the people who didn't buy into the hype of movie when it came out and was underwhelmed when I saw it in theatre... over the years I've seen it occasionally on TV and feel that it is even less of a movie than I had originally thought...

It's a pretty mediocre movie even with the visuals, which aren't that impressive anymore... it's just CGI... Once you get used to the CGI there is even less there to hold interest or to enjoy... This isn't Terminator 2...

the hype was quite intense... in particular the cheerleading critics... the movie was all spectacle, zero substance... and yet it wasn't fun

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus was visually, emotionally and aesthetically more impressive...

Yes, overrated in my opinion.

I thought it was great the first time I saw it. Upon watching it a second time about 3 years later, it seemed a lot less enjoyable and more tedious, not just because it was not in the cinema this time. I didn't get into the original hype either.

For me, it isn't a film I really enjoy watching again. Maybe I'll in a decade or so, but I probably won't go to the cinema to see the sequels.

Yeah, I think his other movies have aged a lot better... e.g. Terminator 2, even Titanic (which I thought was overrated when it came out, but still works as a blockbuster type movie).

I didn't think the CGI was terribly impressive when it was new either, to be honest.
