R Rated Remakes

I don't understand why the modern movie portrayals of '21 Jump Street', 'Bay Watch' and now CHIPs are being made as R rated comedies. They were TV shows that were watched by families in their day and surely these explicit movie versions of these shows alienate the millions who used to love the shows. It's an odd trend. Having said that, I do realize that '21 Jump street' (the movie) was a box office hit, but Bay Watch and Chips certainly weren't.

Also why does this discussion board go back 14 years when the movies less than 4 years old ? That's got me very confused

I don't see these films as remakes or tributes they are more like cheap parodies like Scary Movie.

That's why they go for the R rating so they can resort to cheap jokes etc

The only one of these films that worked was the Jump St ones because the original was a crazy idea to begin with.

I would love to watch a family-friendly reboot of CHiPs. I used to love that show when I was a kid.

I believe the trend started with Starsky & Hutch
