No sharks?

Strikes me as unrealistic that there would be no sharks anywhere in sight. Considering the fact that they are in the open ocean and at least one person was either injured or killed with blood in the water Open Water 2: Adrift or simply adrift was a waste of time.

I don't know where they were supposed to be, but there were no shark concerns when they filmed it (just off Malta, only one known shark attack in all known history, back in 1907)

(yeah, I bothered to watch the making-of documentary, I love this annoying flick that much)

There are patches of ocean off the west coast of Central America that are effectively "sterile." Whales will raise their calves there because no marine life means no sharks.

Seems like this film was maybe set in one of those patches because the waters was so clear.

The huge size of the boat probably scared off any sharks in that area

reply

That would be highly doubtful.

Then why in Jaws did Brody say "we're gonna need a bigger boat"? The larger the boat, the more likely the shark would get scared off

reply

Because the huge size of the shark made him feel like even the boat they were in was venerable, and in the end it was.

Sharks a curious by nature and swim close to large boats all the time.

Thanks for clarifying
