Ignoring the reference to those god awful Disney films, of COURSE the Clone Wars Jedi were not "ideal Jedi".

That was the entire point. Palpatine started the Clone Wars events, beginning with Naboo, for several reasons:

1. To create a situation that allowed him to become Republic Chancellor, the most powerful position in the galaxy.

2. To create a state of war across the entire galaxy, with fear, distrust, anger, hate, pain, death, etc. at an all-time high. This gave strength to the Dark Side, and unbalanced the force to a great degree, which in turn only empowered Sidious himself.

3. The Clone Wars, and pretty much everything that transpired from Naboo to the start of the war onward, was designed by Palpatine to manipulate and forge Anakin into the weapon he wanted him to be. Everything, literally everything, from his Jedi training, to his falling in love with Padme, to his mother dying, him becoming the greatest warrior of the Clone Wars, his fear/visions of losing Padme, etc., was all caused deliberately, because these things all added up to both making Anakin the most powerful weapon he could be, and making him fragile/malleable enough to trick into the turning on the Jedi.

The point being though, that the Jedi themselves, as genuinely good as most of them were, beyond still being just people at their core, the war was intended, by Palpatine, to corrupt, compromise, and weaken the Jedi. All of which it did. By creating a galactic conflict that HAD to get involved in, he was able to pervert their nature and purpose, from being arbiters and peace-keepers, into being military commanders, even killers during war. The Jedi were absolutely at their lowest, by the Emperor's design, during the Clone Wars. Thus when Order 66 happened, it was at that exact moment when they were weakest, spread most thin, and most vulnerable to attack. Tragic, but true.

"Ignoring the reference to those god awful Disney films"

You Filoni/Lucas zealots are NUTS. Always bringing up DiSnEY. Can't not talk about them. They have better reviews than the prequels, you know?

reply

Firstly, Lucas created the goddamn thing.

Secondly, I'm not a fucking "zealot", Rey was brought up, thus I made it clear I was ignoring her character. I'd LOVE to never talk about them, but somehow "certain" SW folks always have to bring them up.

Third, movie ratings, based on pro reviews, mean absolutely nothing. Some amazing movies have low critic scores, while a lot of absolute TRASH, especially from recent years, has great scores. It's absolutely impossible, isn't it, that ginormous corporation like Disney would pay critics for good press, or that ANY critics would EVER take kickbacks or perks to give positive reviews, eh?

But regardless of ALL of that, I'm sorry, but personal taste or opinions aside, those films are objectively garbage. They could make a master-class in bad filmmaking, based on them alone. Not because they're bad Star Wars movies (they are), but because they're objectively just very poorly written and badly made FILMS, period. Mega budgets, yes. Even good visuals and cinematography? Yes. But the STORIES they tell are hollow, contrived, nonsensical crap. The writing, especially for the second and third films, is laughably bad, like on an amateurish level. I've seen a LOT of garbage movies in my day, usually very low budget, but The Last Jedi alone stands out as one of the single most-cringe badly written films I've ever sat through. The prequels definitely have their faults, and the dialogue specifically should have been directed better. But overall they tell a good/interesting story, that at least was fresh and had a complete vision and endgame in mind. The Disney trilogy was a hot mess from the beginning, with zero actual direction for the story. Them having "better reviews" does not change the fact that even as uneven as the prequels are, they're still solid movies. The Kennedy trilogy is not, by any stretch of the imagination.

Fuck Lucas.

Those Godawful are canon accept it son also that's HOW Jedi should be Not the Jedi the Prequels ACCEPT IT

reply

Of course the Jedi aren't ideal Jedi, that was one of the points of the Prequel films! Maybe the Jedi were once the perfect selfless knights of young Luke's imagination, but by the time of Palpatine's rise, they were too political, bound by their own rules, and psychologically traumatized their younglings. Ya think Anakin was the only one with mommy issues?

No, of course the Jedi were imperfect, individually and institutionally. The only people who could possibly think otherwise are the ones who insist that the original Trilogy is the only REAL Star Wars, and all they know about the Jedi is the little that Obi-Wan told Luke. And Obi-Wan lied like a rug to Luke.
