This movie was hilarious! Why the low rating!?

You haters can suck it! This movie was hilarious!

Seriously, I really don't understand the low rating. Comedy is a difficult genre to rate because of the different comedic style preferences, but in no way does this movie deserve below a 6/10. I hardly laughed at Tropic Thunder, yet somehow that movie is rated a 7.2 (I did appreciate the funny cameos, but that can hardly make up for an overall unfunny film). I wonder what kind of films the people enjoy that rated this movie below 6!?!?!

Could another reason for the low ratings be the disappointment from lovers of the original series? Nevertheless, I don't think it should be compared to the original series, but should just be viewed as a standalone comedy. Maybe that's just the mistake Universal made.. they should not have linked it to the orginal series.

My personal rating: 8/10.

I agree, as a big Ferrel fan, i can watch this film over and over, i dont get why it has a low rating, maybe peoples opinions on will ferrel have something to do with it i don't know.

I thought the jokes were hilarious, i laugh everytime, especially when Ferrel is being chased by the T rex and hides in the clothes shop pretending to be a mannequin

this is atleast a 7 for me

reply

Yeah, this movie is awesome! I saw it 3 times at my theater. All the haters...and Matt Lauer can suck it!!!

reply

He is so grumpy...i think thats what we should call him, Grumpy, 'yeah, cute name'
It really is underrated

reply

What the *beep*???

I was watching this movie and right when I got to this post and read you quoting the "grumpy" line...it was the exact same time as the movie. Literally read your quote in sync with the movie saying it. What are the chances of that.

No. I only watched this because it had Will Ferrell and Anna Friel in it. He's been really funny elsewhere (Stranger than Fiction, Melinda and Melinda, The Other Guys) but this film didn't have one decent joke in it that I can recall. A bit of a drawback for a comedy, but not necessarily fatal; unfortunately this didn't really have anything else to recommend it either. The only reason I can see for it to exist is if the producers maybe had Ferrell and Friel's families held hostage somewhere.

Hm. You think that's funny? I assume you're a pre-teen?

If elitism consists of requiring entertainment to be put together with a minimal degree of care and intelligence, then I plead guilty, your honour. It's quite possible to create popular entertainment that does that - the Farrelly brothers for example - but this particular film is just piss-poor.

Don't be such a pretentious fool. I am guessing you are around 25, that is how old I was when I was under the impression we could judge other people's intelligence by the films they watch....Since your comment is 6 years old, I can only hope you have now grown up and realized how silly your comment was?
I am over 30 and I thought this film was hilarious.

reply

Agree with you,too !

reply

I too thought it was hilarious. I guess its like 'Nacho Libre', intentionally stupid and slapstick. So while those who like slapstick movies will like it, those who dont or try to find reason, wont.
I loved nacho libre and this one too.

I dont see a problem with being easily entertained. In what way is that a bad thing?

reply

"This slop was thrown together w/out a thought or clue as to how to make it entertaining or even watchable."

Obviously that's a lie, since you see there are many here who were entertained by it.

reply

I also enjoyed it, which I was a bit surprised at, given the negative reviews it received. It's definitely a decent movie.

reply

Not even close to being as bad as I thought it would be. I feel bad for not supporting this in theaters now.

Will Ferrel made this movie HILARIOUS!

I love the subtle, low key jokes he does.

reply

I Thought it was pretty funny. The plot was a bit lame but Ferrell and McBride made this movie very funny. I Give it a 6.5

I saw the "LOTL" movie during its theatrical run and was a bit disappointed. I was eight- or nine-years-old when the original television series aired on Saturday mornings. My now 9-year-old daughter has seen most of those TV episodes on DVD.

We should have definitely gone to see a different movie last summer. This is NOT a family film and should not have been marketed as such.

I just watched it again (alone on HBO On Demand) and it is pretty funny; at times perverted and juvenile, but entertaining as a whole. "Hot Fuzz", "The Hangover" and "Zombieland" are more consistent comedies, but this one is worth a look after you've seen those movies 2-3 times.

Then again, I have a couple of friends who didn't like "The Hangover". They are the only people I know who didn't like it. I thought it was hilarious, but it just didn't do it for them. (Not as much as "Nacho Libre"!?)

Comedy is a funny thing.

Yeah, I wasn't even going to rent it after all I'd heard, but then it popped up on HBO. I am sooooo glad I decided to watch it! Freakin hilarious! I'm going to watch it a second time too!

"You haters can suck it". Hm. Maybe the haters actually look for quality in their movies.

At first I hated this movie without having seen it. I knew that it was only related to the original series in name, as well as a few loose concepts. The base was there. You could take a great cheesy show from the 70s and update it. Instead, they made a horrible comedy with boob feeling chimps and awful leaps of faith and logic. For example, when the Sleestak chase them into the pylon, how did they get out after talking to Enid? We never know, because the scene jumps. Small detail but irritating. There were other flaws as well.

If the movie had nothing to do with the original series, I think I would like it more. And I've obviously seen it. It was worth the price of admission. Free!

People will like it of course, and that's fine. I like a lot of really dumb comedies. This one just doesn't make the cut.

3/10

Agree 100%. Watched this on HBO tonight not expecting a lot and it was hilarious, I laughed a lot. I'd definitely watch it again. Just silly and fun.

it really wasnt that good in comparison to alot of the "SNL/ghost cat" troupe.
Anchorman still being thier brilliance imo and talladega night comming in a close second. Land of the lost had a couple laughs but it was way too tame and family friendly. while watching it , many times i felt like i was watching like a sad orca trapped in a small seaworld tank when looking at ferrel.

reply

never heard of the original series. just watched this for the second time and found it even funnier than the first time. will ferrel and danny mcbride are very funny guys. but you either get their humour or you dont. if you dont like either of them then youll hate the movie. chaka was hilarious too and anna friel rounded off the cast nicely..

never trust a guy in a tunic. lol.

I'm pretty surprised it got trashed by so many. Maybe the problem was expectations.

I think, in fact, that "expectations" are the greatest problem in moviegoing. Not that there aren't bad movies - there are. But, when expectations are high, people walk away disappointed.

WHen it came on HBO, my teenage daughter watched it and I watched a few minutes and thought it was pretty funny. Next time it came on I watched most of it.

I agree, it is pretty hilarious. Will Ferrell was classic.

You watch movies to be entertained and it has little need for "realism" - hey, I was very entertained.

reply

I try to always keep my expectation high when watching any movie. If I'm going to sit there for a couple of hours and watch it why waste my time on something I'm not expecting much out of? This movie satisfied those expectations too.

I thought it was hilarious, clever, and a lot of fun.
