After killing everyone (infected and healthy) they then neuc the town at the end to kill off the town completely. Is that so they can cover up what happened and pretend it all never happened?
If so, what about family and friends of the towns residents who lived elsewhere. They would notice the people and town had "gone" and report it.. ?
Detonate a nuke and it isn't just family and friends that'll notice. Anybody in a few hundred miles will feel it (although probably not recognise it immediately). Plus, as North Korea recently demonstrated, drop a (tiny) nuke, and unknown people on the other side of the planet will tell you the yield.
Sooo, yeah. No way they could've got away with keeping it secret.

That was all explained in the news footage shown about 30 seconds into the credits. They dropped the bomb then covered it up saying a propane? plant caught fire and blew up the town.
