One of the best horror films of the 21st Century

I genuinely forgot how freaking amazing this film is. I haven't seen it since 2008. So I kinda forgot about it a bit. Finally rewatched it with my little siblings this past weekend.

As claustrophobic, this film did a number on me. Like even before we got to "The creatures", The film was already tense af for me.

Also, this film makes wonderful use of Jump scares. Not too much, just the right amount & at the right times. Unlike most horror films nowadays that overuse it. There's one scene that got me so good. I genuinely jumped.

The remarkable thing about this film is that at some point you forget that you're watching a horror. It goes along like some girl-bonding until that first crawler suddenly appears behind the one woman. Then it's sheer terror from there on. Horror movies generally don't scare me, but The Descent traumatized me to the extent that I will literally never set foot in a cave again. No other movie has ever instilled such an irrational fear in me.

I'm not exaggerating when I say that this film is one of the main reasons I tend to avoid going into caves. Like period.

Even minus the creatures, getting stuck in a cave is now legit one of my top phobias. lol

I used to cave explore around 30 years ago and in some cases, had to crawl on my belly through mud and clay to get to another room to get out with only inches above your head as you crawl.. It is claustrophobic and not something I would do again..

I would love to see it get a 4k release.
