why would they introduce a new character?

to achieve what? there were so many interesting characters based on video games to choose from yet they found it necessary to create something new? and they didn't even do it properly.
don't they understand that the target audience for such movies are mostly video game fans and they want to see the story of their beloved video game characters?
why is this so hard to remain loyal to the source material? this is all we ask.
