I did'nt notice until about the 3rd viewing that when Jake is trying to find Janey and goes to her house, when her dad is having a Nam. flashback, that there are various pies on the table with holes in.
Then when the they are under the table, there is a clear hole in a cabbage and lots of bagels under the table. WTF had Janeys dad been doing? Ha ha.

Also, this may be more trivia than subtle reference, but the football coach plays Brendan Fraser's dad in School Ties, another high school football movie, albeit set in the 50s
Certainly seems like a Footloose reference to me.
