Why does Bourne keep leaving perfectly good guns behind?

In his safe deposit box, he leaves the gun behind. Why?

Then, when he disarms the guards at the embassy, he takes one of their guns....but then throws it in a trash can. Why?

You'd think a gun would come in handy for a guy on the run in constant danger, no?
Better to have a free gun and not need it....than need a free gun and not have one.

Yet he often does. It's simply a cheap ploy to create hand to hand combat scenes.

Being armed in a place that does not allow civilians to carry handguns complicates things. Especially if you plan on going through public transit and other places with metal detectors. If he needs one, he can take one from someone with a freshly broken arm.
