It was rape, but

throughout the movie, women are treated like objects.. straight from the start, the office girls, the girls he sleeps with, the porn, the easy girls in the dates. I can keep going.

But when he gets "raped", all of that doesn't count and now you want fair rules in the same court. You tools are nothing, but delusional.

He got sex when he didn't want to, so what? Yes it was basically rape, but here's the deal, it doesn't have as much as an impact as it would to a woman. don't start claiming that he deserved to be treated like a woman, because I'm sure you had no issues with the rest of the movie.

pretty simple concept here, if you still can't understand it, you're a moron.

Rape is rape. Whatever the circumstances. Whether the victim is male or female and whether the raper is male or female.

As far as I'm concerened she should face the exact SAME penalties and the exact same chances of that penalty as a man would have in reverse.

What about the OP? Do you think they make women or 'male feminists' look good with their 'men deserve to be raped' rhetoric?

reply

"it doesn't have as much as an impact as it would to a woman."

that's just how the writers chose to have things played out, what with this being a "comedy" film.
had this been a different type of movie methinks things could've played out a lot differently.

He never rapes or manipulates any women in this film. The one night stands are just that, they aren't being treated like objects at all. In fact early in the film he is shown to not want to be with any women as he still isn't over his ex and his friend/roommate pushes him into going on the date. Hell he faked an orgasm cause he wanted more than just sex.
Also the scenes where he sees women in their bras and naked is a normal biological reaction, his mind is reacting to not getting the release it was used too. Even the office omen talk about how the power is there's and he not being a typical young guy is screwing with the system.
He does everything he could to show the main woman Erica respect and not take advantage of her. He is raped and there is no "deserving" of it at all. While the film was about his quest to not have sex and it ultimately turns into an ironic love story they could have thrown in some dialogue in which his ex was held accountable. He never said no, but he never said yes either.
Also I do realize the OP probably won't read this as this post was in 20012, but wanted to add my thoughts.

Yes, they are. But that's just part of what makes this movie so disgusting. The rape is the other part.

This movie treats both sexes horribly.

Can't stop the signal.

Are you a religious person? Because there is nothing wrong with one night stands, if two people who are attracted to each other but don't want a commitment and want to have sex they have every right to do so, neither party manipulated each other. He never made it out like this was gonna be serious and neither did she.
I know in this day an age HIV and other diseases are out there, but its still no crime to have sex without commitment and still be honest with the person.

Casual, unprotected sex is one of the root causes of AIDS,but people will be people. Just use protection and a little common sense.

reply

I don't approve of the sexual objectification at the start of the film, BUT rape is RAPE. You CANNOT compare the two things.

reply

He got raped, and Noone says a word about it. And his gf blamed him, and the film makers didn't address it at all.'
However you frame that, it's wrong!

reply

Not only that, the rapist got away with it and didn't she also get the money?

Let's be bad guys.

reply

Yeah i think so 😰
I havent watched it in a while be ause of the horrible ending...

reply

Because raping someone, isn't nearly as BAD, as objectifying them...
