In real life, what's so far been the fastest speed you've driven in a car

Irrespective whether it was your own (current or previous) car or someone else's
(whether you were the one driving, or you were only a passenger doesn't matter),
what's so far been the fastest speed you've driven, without crashing and
harming anyone and/or also physically damaging the car. It doesn't matter if
it was on a road, or on a race track.

If it's miles, please covert it to a km figure as well and please elaborate on
what the serious or humorous circumstances of driving so fast far were.

300 MPH. i was driving a 1990 accord that just happened to be faster than most other accords.

EDIT* HAve no idea how to convert that to KM, sorry

reply

I didn't even know everyday cars can go that fast!

yeah the fastest i've driven was 90mph in a '97 Mercury Mystique, I couldn't even handle that speed.

I have a mustang now, i'm not even gonna bother .

That's what she said.

I think we can give the guy a break and assume he meant 300 km/hr. Which would probably be around 186 MPH.

reply

145 which is about 235-240 kmph. It was in a 98 Saab 900s. My dad was a good driver and we had a flat road.

140 mph... in my 1972 Pontiac Grand Prix... on a straight section of highway... for about 15 secs before I let off of the gas...In KPH it equals 225.30

240 km/h in a 2001 Mustang GT at a track.

190km/h in a 2010 nissan maxima on the highway in Queensland. I would go faster if the road was flatter and straighter.

I also have a stock Saab 900 (1995 model year) with a normally aspirated V6. My top speed is just under 150. That's on stock 170HP. The 900s with the 4 cylinder turbocharged engines easily top 150 and did so during the 900's famous endurance run at Talladega. Some of the 9-3 Viggens are amazing though. When stock, their governor limits them to 150, but if you remove it they can go much faster. People even add more to them, but I can't imagine how bad the torque steer is given how brutal a stock Viggen has it. Now I'd love to see how fast the new 9-5 with the 300+ HP turbocharged V6 and AWD can do.

140mph stock Covrette, 175mph (GPS'd, the speedo pegged 187) stock Hayabusa

Between 120 - 125 I was racing on the freeway in my 2000 si

reply

After I tuned the ECU on my 2007 WRX (which removed the top speed governor) I went out and did 289 km/hr. I had to calculate my speed based on gear ratios and engine speed because the speedo stops at 240 km/hr.

reply

140 km/h in a '94 corolla xD

Because I'm hardcore.

Let's see--in 1962 I was hitchhiking (it used to be fun) and a guy picked me up in a '62 Corvette he had modified. We were driving on a new expressway in VA and he buried the speedometer at 150 or 160 I think--I was so scared and excited at the same time that all I remember is that the light poles on my right were going by so fast I almost soiled my pants. Nice ride, though.

In '72 I bought a Buick GS Stage 1 convertible and the Buick dealer mechanic used to take it out on I-95 in WPB where I lived. He would tune it at the dealership and then take us for a ride on I-95--it was built but not yet open for about 10 miles. He would bury the speedometer, stop, make an adjustment, and do it again. He told me we were doing well over 130, but I have no way of knowing. I sold the car 3 years ago to pay for a divorce, but I now have a '70 GS with a modified engine, suspension, etc. I don't know yet how fast it will go, but I can tell you for certain that it ain't slow and it is faster from a stop than the '72.

Cheers!
