Tank was written out of sequel because Marcus Chong turned nasty

Apparently after the huge success of the Matrix, he wanted a bigger check for his part. I agree, if you are part of a movie that is huge, you should probably earn more on the next movie, even if it is a nod of respect or gratitude for doing a good job on the 1st. I thought he did a great job on the 1st.

But he got demanding and then did something he shouldn't have, he apparently threatened producers.

I believe police got involved. He eventually tried to sue!

Not only did he burn his chances of being in the sequels, he burnt his name in Hollywood and never did anything of note ever since.

I just saw the trilogy again and wondered what happened to him (why he wasn't in the second movie).

If what you said is true, he's out of his mind. He was a third-tier character. Why did he think he was so much bigger than he actually was?

reply

I thought he was better than who they replaced him with, Link, played by Harold Perrineau.

I actually just looked up Harold, strange seeing him look middle aged. He had a very boyish face in Matrix Reloaded. I wouldn't have guessed he was actually 40 in Matrix Reloaded.

reply

I thought he was better, too (Perrineau came off as annoying to me with how earnest he was in that role, like he was still trying for the part or something or just nervous).

They don't say "black don't crack" for nothing, hehe.

reply

I think most black people more or less look Thier age. It's Asians who can be hard to guess sometimes.

reply

Bummer to hear that, I hate to hear stories of people being damn fools!

Because while he was certainly due for a little bit of a raise if he'd appeared in the sequel, his presence was strictly optional. He was part of the crew, crews change out. He could be replaced with another actor with one stroke of the scriptwriter's word processor, and he and his agent should have known that.

reply

bet Keanu, Carrie and Laurence were all like 'what an idiot!' when they went back to work on the sequel and heard what happened..

seriously he shouldve just been happy to have made it through the first movie and get asked back for the HUGE sequels and to be working and getting paid! (no doubt more than the first but not anything like what Carrie or Laurence were getting which its probably what he was wanting) and hopefully it would increase his profile and lead to other stuff ..

instead of that...well look what happened - written out and getting labelled a nutcase

reply

Absolutely. I'm sure he was offered more for the sequels, but if he expected to be paid like one of the leads he was deluding himself. As a supporting character you're basically compiling a resume for future work. Getting your face out there, in movies tons of people are going to see, and making a nice comfortable paycheck in the process. That's a pretty sweet deal. I can see an agent going to bat for their client and trying to get the best terms they can. But a reputation as a prima donna is the kiss of death in Hollywood. And actually threatening the producers? I'm reminded of that old cliche line - you'll never work in this town again! Which he apparently hasn't. Very stupid.

reply

He looked like a Hispanic Jean-Claude Van Damme.

reply

He looks mixed south East Asian.

Apparently, you are full of shit. So, stop spreading bullshit on the net.

Read and learn and stop defending the tranvestites who fucked him over.

In fact, you can help Chong by buying the book he wrote this year about the corrupt movie industry -

The Kill Off
By Marcus Chong

Oh - and here is him talking about what happened - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9OM4yoXCA4

What is dumb on his part is that he thought he could win against the corporate machine - he should have known better.

Apparently he thought he would destroy WB with this 'documentary' - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cI07UxRbYsw

The documentary is crap - and the fact that he threatened them with this documentary..... makes him seem naive at best.

reply

Don’t talk to me like that or I block you.

reply

I checked your links, and Marcus Chong sounds and looks like a nut job in both of them. How many other actors worked on The Matrix and didn't have these issues that he's talking about?
