The opening credits scenes are so great

Watching Porter quickly go from broke to scamming and stealing his way to thousands of bucks, a new suit, a hotel room, a gun, and money in his pocket is genius. IMO the best part of the movie.

I can't swear this, but I think some years ago I watched it on TV and they cut one key bit:

Where he sits in an airport bathroom stall, reaches over under the next stall, and grabs the briefcase of another passenger, sliding it over to his stall and stealing the case and the contents.

I can see where airlines and airports would not want that "technique" too widely advertised.

I don’t think that was cut for T.V. I just watched the original and there was no airport bathroom stall scene. Was what you described maybe in some alternate version?

ecarle returns to note i just watched Payback on amazon prime and there was no bathroom stall scene. Nor any scene at an airport. I know I saw the scene as part of how Porter ran scams like picpocketing to get id and credit cards. Maybe the scene was in a bus or train station. I dont think I dreamed it. I DO think they took it out for tv cable streaming. Or maybe it was in another movie. Ha.

You’re one of the best posters on here ecarle. You’ve seen and commented on so many movies and kept this place interesting. I always read your posts

That scene has never been in this movie, must be from something else.

Yes...there was clearly no scene of that nature in the print of Payback I just watched. 2 things drive nuts. 1 is that I remember thinking it was bad to give people ideas to steal stall to stall thats why I remember the scene somewhere. 2 is that it WOULD fit the opening sequence as Gibson steals a guys credit card and change from a beggars box. I will not rest til I find this scene even if its in another movie. It plagues me...

The way he did that probably couldn't be done in real life given how most people probably don't carry their wallet inside their coat pocket like that dude did, plus, after charging someone's credit card so many times, chances are, a red flag will pop up, but nevertheless, this really is a good movie and more preferred than the DIRECTORS CUT which quite frankly sucks
