They don't make shitty movies like this anymore.

This movie is pretty shit, but considering the shitty movies nowadays are even shittier, I can almost appreciate how shit this movie is. There is something endearing about shitty movies pre-2004 compared to the shitty movies now. The shitty movies now rely on shitty CGI, the latest shitty A-lister and a shitty nonsensical story that we push aside. I wish we still had the shit we had in the 90s, because there was at least an attempt to amaze us. The scenes were shit, but they were memorable shit. Every era has their good movies, but the shit movies now are just flat-out shit. There was an art to shitty 90s movies that made them so entertaining. Movies have gone from "the shit" to actual shit.

reply

SAME SHIT,DIFFERENT HEADSPACE....SHIT IS SHIT...BUT WE MAKE ALLOWANCES FOR SHIT WE SAW DURING OUR PRIME....NOSTALGIC SHIT.

reply

Excessive shit CGI and shitty casting of popular actors has ruined the era now. Matthew Broderick sucks but he was never some bankable A-lister.

reply

CGI WAS RAMPANT IN 1998..AND BRODERICK WAS A BIG NAME AT THE TIME...JEAN RENO AND HANK AZARIA WERE CAST BASED ON THE PROFESSIONAL AND THE SIMPSONS...SAME AS IT EVER WAS.

reply

CGI was used when it was needed in the 90s. Now it's used for everything:

YOU GET HUNG UP ON WEIRD POINTS...I HAVE SEEN SPAWN...THUS YOU SOUND FOOLISH.

reply

Excessive CGI is not a weird point. It's a legitimate complaint.

reply

LIKE TOY STORY?🤔

reply

That's an animated film and the first of it's kind. They release 20 of these a year now.

reply

JUST LIKE WHEN TRADITIONAL ANIMATION WAS NEW AND NOVEL...AND THEN IT BECAME COMMON AND MUNDANE.

EVERYTHING NEW AND INVENTIVE EVENTUALLY BECOMES OLD AND OVERDONE.

reply

Matthew Broderick sucks

Hogwash! He's legit great in the new Painkiller Netflix series.

The problem with Godzilla '98 being shit is that it's only shit as a "Godzilla" movie, if they had just named the monster in this movie something else, and it had no connection got Godzilla, its actually decent giant monster film.

reply

I AGREE WITH THAT.

reply

I reject your hogwash! Broderick is only good is rare roles where he's playing himself. "Election" is a good example. And he's an asshole who killed two people.

reply

Sorry I was editing my post and added more while you were responding.

Fuck it I'll put it here instead:

But after thinking about this some more, I think I actually agree with your main point. Straight to VHS and DVD movies in the 90s were way better than their modern equivalents, the low-budget Straight-to-VOD streaming flicks.

Its the difference between FULL MOON VIDEOS (90s) and ASYLUM PICTURES (present).

reply

IT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HAVING TO AFFORD A TRADITIONAL SHOOT REQUIRING ACTUAL FILMMAKING TOOLS...AS OPPOSED TO MOVIEMAKING TECH BEING IN EVERYONES POCKET AT ALL TIMES.

reply

Yes I think that is a huge part of it. Making movies has been democratized, which in many ways is good, but it also means there's a flood of garbage out there.

reply

I don't even think it's just the straight to VHS/streaming movies. Epic movies felt epic before. I mean, looks at these practical effects from 1997:
https://youtu.be/FzMT-D0XOyc?t=93

If this was done today, it would all be CGI.

reply

IF THEY HAD MODERN CGI IN 1997 THEY WOULD HAVE USED IT....I PREFER MOVIES FROM MY "GOLDEN AGE" TOO...THAT IS HOW IT WORKS.

reply

But they didn't and it makes for a better scene and looks better than anything out of a Marvel movie.

reply

SAYS A COUPLE OF GUYS WITH BALD SPOTS AND GRAY HAIRS ON THEIR BALLS...FACE IT...WE OLD...WE LIKE WHAT WE LIKE BECAUSE WE LIKE IT...BUT THE AUDIENCE IS COMPRISED OF A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO THINK AND LIKE IN A VERY DIFFERENT WAY THAN WE DO...PRACTICAL EFFECTS ALL DAY LONG,BABY...TOM SAVINI IS A PERSONAL HERO OF MINE...HOWEVER...CGI IS A WONDERFUL TOOL THAT CAN BE USED TO CREATE AMAZING THINGS...IT SHOULD BE EMBRACED...AS IT HAS BEEN...REGARDLESS OF THE FACT THAT LIKE EVERY OTHER TOOL IT WILL BE USED FOR GREATNESS AND MEDIOCRITY.

reply

Well, practical effects done badly look just as shit as bad CGI done badly.

Likewise, good practical effects done well look just as good as good CGI done well.

I linked to the "Napoleon" (2023) Trailer a few months ago because I thought the movie legit looks seriously EPIC and there's definitely CGI in that one. https://moviechat.org/tt13287846/Napoleon/64ac14a59c335d5afe6a1de6/Trailer-just-dropped-Looks-Epic-AF

I guess my point is they still make Epic movies that feel epic. Maybe not as often, but I think that has more to do with the changing tastes of movie goers than CGI versus Practical effects.

reply

I still prefer bad practical effects compared to bad CGI effects. It's nicer on the eye because it actually exists.

reply

id have to rewatch it but i enjoyed it. then again when i was young i loved all sort of shit and hated all the classics and films i love now

reply

It's pretty entertaining and fun, better than a lot of movies now.

reply

It's shit, but I'll take it over the shit now any day.

reply

WHY DOS NOBODY REALIZE THAT THE REASON THEY THINK MODERN SHIT IS SO EXTRA SHITTY IS BECAUSE THEY ARE OLD NOW AND JADED TO SUCH SHIT BY FRIENDLIER SHIT FROM THEIR PAST.

reply

There's too much shit out there now with no attempt on making something great. Years ago I could watch 10 releases every year multiple times in the same year. There's no nostalgia if I'm watching it the same year its released. Now I have trouble coming up with even 2 movies that I watched multiple times in a year.

reply

DO YOU KNOW HOW NOSTALGIA WORKS?....WHEN YOU ARE YOUNGER AND FRESHER YOU ARE LESS INFORMED,LESS JADED,YOU HAVE EXPERIENCED LESS...SO YOU LIKE AND APPRECIATE EASIER...THEN YOU GET OLDER AND MORE JADED AND EXPERIENCED AND SCHOOLED SO YOU TAKE A HARDER LOOK AT NEW THINGS...BUT STILL HOLD THAT LOVE FOR THINGS OF EQUAL OR LESSER VALUE BECAUSE YOU EXPERIENCED THEM WHEN YOU WERE FRESHER.

reply

By your logic, by the time we are 80, we will like absolutely nothing.

reply

YEAH...THAT IS RIGHT...NO OFFENSE...HE IS NOT 80 BUT LOOK AT UNCLE HOWNOS...HE VASTLY PREFERS FILMS AND SHOWS FROM HIS YOUNGER DAYS AND SKIPS OR DISLIKES A MUCH LARGER PORTION OF ENTERTAINMENT EVERY YEAR.

THAT IS HOW IT WORKS...THATS WHY MY GRANDPARENTS THOUGHT THE BEATLES WERE DEVIL SHIT...WHY MY PARENTS DON'T WATCH SEX COMEDIES OR SUPER HERO SHIT...WHY I THINK ALI'S GENERATION PRODUCES A BUNCH OF DISPOSABLE LOOK AT ME BULLSHIT.

reply

People say we're in the golden age of TV and videogames.

reply

TV ISN'T TV ANYMORE...IT'S LONG-FORM MOVIES...I THINK VIDEO GAM,ES TOPPED OUT IN THE 90S...BUT THAT'S ME.

reply

Everyone should watch the animated series over this.

reply

How long can they go with Godzilla destroying the city?

reply

The animated sequel series the baby Zilla at the very end of the film becomes the new heroic Godzilla fighting monsters all over the globe.

Realistically Godzilla should've rampaged across America like Heisei Godzilla rampaging across Japan not just Tokyo.

reply

That sounds pretty lame. I don't like that transition from evil to good.

reply

reply

Thanks actually looks a lot better than I thought it would.

reply

If the 98 movie Zilla was the 1954 Zilla than cartoon Zilla Jr that appeared in every film after until 1984.

As mentioned everyone should watch the animated show over the movie.
