kickass lines

when Melvin was asked how he described women so well,"I think of a man, then I take away reason and accountability " ha ha, Then in the car on the trip " what makes it hard is not that you had it bad, it is that you are so pissed that so many others had it good."

"I'm very intelligent, if you're gonna give me hope, you gotta do better than you're doing."

"I think people who talk in metaphors oughta shampoo my crotch"!

It's indie rock and roll for me

Almost every single line said by Melvin is a killer! Apart from the ones already mentioned above, I've always loved the long "do-not-disturb" monologue that Melvin delivers when Simon knocks on his door looking for his dog. That's just priceless!

Mr McGee, don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry!

reply

"...so even if some *beep* you date has just been elected the first queer president of the United States and he's just invited you to Camp David for the weekend and you want to share the moment with someone, don't. Knock. On. This. Door."

Yeah, I know it's horrible but that line makes me laugh every time I hear it. It probably comes from the same corner of my mind that really appreciates well-done shocker horror movies.

Melvin to Carol at the "dress-up" restaurant:

(paraphrasing),

" They make me wear a jacket and tie, and you're wearing a housedress!"

"Quit worrying, you'll be back on your knees in no time..

What if this is as good as it gets?

"...clippity clop clippity clop... ignores me...."

"...NEVER interrupt me, okay? Not if there's a fire. Not even if you hear the sound of a thud from my home, and one week later, there's a smell coming from there that can only be a decaying human body, and you have to hold a hanky to your face because the stench is so thick that you think you're gonna faint - even then, don't come knocking. Or, if it's election night, and you're excited and you wanna celebrate because some *beep* that you date has been elected the first queer president of the United States, and he's going to have you down to Camp David, and you want someone to share the moment with. Even then, don't knock. Not on this door. Not for ANY reason. Do you get me, sweetheart?"

It's not a subtle point your making!

I consider the question on which the title is based to be one of the more shattering lines in cinematic history.

"What if this is as good as it gets?"

I said it in another post, but I really like the line where at the end of Carol's date, the Yuppie guy said, "Just a little too much reality for a Friday night." Totally drives home how different their lives are. Carol never gets the Friday night away from reality and she's not going to get it with Melvin Udall, either. It's just not destined for her. She's not a noodle salad kind of girl.

"The best thing you have going for you is your willingness to humiliate yourself"

Simon to Melvin

Just LOVE that line!

Carol: Why can't I have a regular boyfriend one that doesnt go nutso on me?!

Carols Mom: Everybody wants that dear. It doesn't exist.

Ha!

My favorite. It isn't just the line, it's also the way Carol's mom seems to suddenly teleport right behind her to say it. XD
