Why Hollywood Won't Cast Sarah Michelle Gellar Anymore

Sarah Michelle Gellar was on a roll in the late ’90s, but lately her career seems to have sputtered out. She was once in command of both the big and small screens, but nowadays her most consistent work seems to be within the world of TV animation voice-overs. Why has she had so much trouble maintaining the spotlight?

Does anybody else now believe that Joss Whedon had a hand in sabotaging Sarah Michelle Gellar's film career?

When the HELL was she ever “in command of the big screen”?!

I think she peaked, had a family and made bad movie choices.
A lot of other actresses of her Era didn't really fare any better like Jennifer Love,Neve Campbell,Denise Richards etc
They are pretty much tv and indie actresses.

SMG didn't leave Hollywood, Hollywood left her. She suffered from the same issue as Neve and most of the "teen" stars from the late 90s/early 00s: being typecasted as teens despite being in their 20s, and being unable to transition into adult roles because they were so tied to projects targeted to younger audiences. Also, the grueling hours to film Buffy meant that Sarah couldn't even make a bunch of movies during her peak the way Katie Holmes or Jennifer Love Hewitt could. Ironically, when she walked away from Buffy to build her film career, she burnt bridges with lots of her fans--I remember folks throwing tantrums in the fan forums and declaring they'd never support her because she ended their favorite show. It didn't help her that her next major part was Scooby-Doo, a tween/family movie. She fell off after the second Scooby-Doo movie to the point where her own agent trashed her as a has-been when The Grudge became a surprise hit. But then that movie typecast her back to the horror/supernatural genre, and she had a string of bad films that had distribution issues. She made that TV comeback in the really terrible CW show about evil twins, and when that was canceled, she threw in the towel and started doing that Foodstirs stuff. She still wants to act, but she's nowhere near being in demand.
