Man this whole trilogy didn't age so well.

I can appreciate the first Scream, and I understand how different it was compared to other horror movies back in the day, especially that opening scene with Drew Barrymore.

I loved this trilogy growing up through elementary and middle school, praising it as "cool, hip and smart horror" basically what the critics said on the DVD/VHS covers.

But man shit like this paved the way for all the shit horror that comes out now, those horror shows on the CW and MTV. (Which I know Kevin Williamson writes for now)

In all actuality Scream wasn't the "smart" horror film it thought it was and fell victim to what the other horror films fell for as well.

I don't know if this is because of the whole "Weinstein" harassment tabloids that have come out recently, but most of the Weinstein films from the 90s just aren't aging that well. I've even noticed it with Pulp Fiction, but that discussion is for another board.

At the end of the day I feel like Friday The 13th films have aged better, hahaha, debate me sucka. I can understand people still loving Scream, it is real nostalgic, and there are a few legitimate well edited/directed/acted scenes, and memorable moments.

CBS just showed Scream and one thing that really stood out is how Billy Loomis was thought as a primary suspect because he has a cell phone. At the time, cell phones were still considered a luxury item that only the wealthy could easily obtain. So of course, when Billy and Stu try to frame Sidney's dad, they place a cell phone on him. And when Gail Weathers' cameraman, Kenny is killed, Gail unbeknownst of what just happened at the time, asks him to let her use his cell phone. Is Scream would've been made today, then Billy would've been a primary suspect for simply not having a cell phone, in order make it harder to trace him.

There's also a key scene that's set in a video rental store, which by 2020, is something that doesn't exactly exist anymore. Streaming at home has all but supplanted the need to rent movies from stores.

Billy does tell the sheriff that "everybody's got one (i.e. a cell phone)". It's the fact that he was present at the crime scene while carrying a cell phone that made him a suspect.

Also, they don't just place a cell phone on Sidney's dad. They place his own cell phone which they used to make all those phone calls. Even today that would be the best way to frame someone.

And why exactly? Because it "paved the way for all the shit horror that comes out now, those horror shows on the CW and MTV"??? You haven't really backed up your statement. Saying Weinstein movies aren't "aging well" doesn't suffice.

Then you should hate the first Jaws too for its sequels and Cruel Jaws etc.
