How the Nicolas Cage character could seriously fall for this greedy, high maintenance Latina with the face of a little monkey is beyond me. Also her voice is very annoying.

She is very annoying. As much as I love the film she is a drag and I know she isn't supposed to be likable but that voice!

I always thought they tried hard to make her a bigger star in the 90's but she just isn't very appealing.
We have a name for women like that (and they don't have to be Puerto Rican either): an MHB, or Money-Hungry Bitches.
Normally women like her go for rich, Latino gangsters and rappers, not nice, white policemen like Cage's character. She must have been the type who preyed on nice men who didn't know her prior to the relationship. Either that, or the pool of rich Latino thugs was too small for her to work with at the time she met the cop.
I recognized what kind of personality that is. Such women used to be only suited to be the mistresses of kings and rich nobles in Europe back in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. In fact, it was expected of them! Oh how the mighty sluts have fallen!
She was annoying but that was the point. We are supposed to see Cages character as the good virtuous guy.
Remove the personalities though and she had every right to be pissed off that her husband gave away a chunk of their winnings to a pretty waitress.
She probably thought Cops were on huge pay packets or that he would work his way up. Being a Govt worker he would get a pension at least.
