Nigel Hawthorne is wasted here

Anyone that has seen even a few episodes of the mesmerizingly sublime TV show called 'Yes, Minister' (The sequel, 'Yes, Prime Minister' was not as good, but still very watchable, and had some gem episodes as well), must feel a deep yearning for Humphrey Appleby giving his excellent speeches.

How can you look at this marvelous.. I mean, superb actor, and NOT think of all the amazingly clever and sneaky manipulations and machinations Humphrey was able to initiate, set forth, accomplish and perfect, and then make it so incredibly funny, even the most depressed cynic couldn't help but laugh out loud when it all hits the fan. Perfection like that TV show doesn't exist anymore, especially in movies, but..

..wouldn't it be incredible to see the sharpest version of Humphrey Appleby doing his stuff the way he did it in that TV show, instead of this weird, watered-down, dumb, incompetent, thoughtless and downright IDIOTIC powerhungry megalo-maniac he portrays in this movie?

Anyone that has seen him at his best, has to be disappointed when they see him in this movie. What he could have been, what he could have done, the ways he could have done it... he already did so much of truly exciting and satisfying, very intelligent and well thought-out stuff in the show, here he could be replaced by almost anyone, and the result would be the same.

BTW, why do they waste so much heat energy in the sewers? Look at how many leaking pipes there are, how much useless steam and sparks flying all over the place! What a waste... and no decorations whatsoever?

Anyway, I don't want to think about any movie too much, or it will just seem to fall apart even more.

I just want to point out one thing I hate almost as much as wasting the brilliant actor; the gosh-darned glass breaks BEFORE the car hits it, and even then, it doesn't break like GLASS, but like some wall of sugar. Watch 'Police Story' (Jackie Chan) to see what glassbreaking is SUPPOSED to look like. So disappointing in this movie.

Fantastic actor, and wonderful in Yes Minister. I guess this was an easy paycheck for him.
