This was the BEST version of this!

Hard to believe this was Gary Sinise's one and only foray into directing. It was beautiful.

I agree. I saw the 1939 version with Burgess Meredith and Lon Chaney Jr. first, but when I saw this, I was blown away. Excellent. This is one of those remakes that needed to be done and worked out great!

Up until today, I thought there were only two films. I had no idea that there was a 1980s version starring Robert Blake and Randy Quaid. I'd like very much to see that one.

I liked it a lot too, from what I remember.

I saw the Burgess Meredith and Lon Chaney Jr. version first, then I read the book in the early 90's thinking to myself that Sherilyn Fenn would be perfect for the role of Curly's wife having recently seen her in Twin Peaks, Gary Sinise is great as George and made a very good adaption but I have to say I preferred Lon Chaney Jr as Lennie, maybe because I saw the 1939 version first, the tragic portrayal by Chaney Jr stuck with me for longer, but by a very small margin I’d say the 1992 version is the better movie.

I haven’t seen either film again in years, but I recommend them both to anyone yet to see them. And the book too!
