I honestly do not understand what is so great about this movie.

We are watching this in my Cinema Appreciation class and I find it a little awkward. It's a good movie so far, but why is it so popular?

Two lesbian women are emancipated without actually coming out. The story of the century, or rather of the end of the 20th century. It is an awkward story since lesbians can't be emancipated without murdering a man, so we have to make that man a rapist, that is denigrate and disparage male sexuality. And also present those lesbians as victims. There you go.

Oh yeh, it's also well shot, directed, acted, produced and sh!t BTW.

You are clever. Came here to hone your feminist rhetoric skills or just trolling skills in general? Since you're so intelligent why don't you actually go out to a bar and do it there with all those savages and brutes.

Some people are put off by Thelma & Louise's feminist themes. I was not put off by the feminist themes, nor was there reason to be. Thelma & Louise's narrative was not aggressively forcing a feminist agenda, rather the trails and tribulations of two friends. This is not Baise-Moi. The feminist perspective of course is part of Thelma and Louise's relationship, but it is not to the extent where a male audience should feel isolated. Thelma and Louise's personalities are equal to human emotions we all experience.

I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not.

I honestly do not understand what is not great about this movie!

It's just a damn good entertaining movie, plain and simple---with interesting characters you come to care about---one of the talented Ridley Scott's best films, too.

Basically that's it

Me neither. Granted, I quite liked it, and I do not consider it to be a bad film in any way; however, it was just too stupid and infuriating at parts. Certainly not a film I enjoy rewatching, and fairly overhyped as well.

I just watched it for the first time and I say it's worth the decades of hype it has. It's aged great and the message it's as relevant today as it was when it came out. The sexist pigs are not only truckers but they also can run for the presidency and get millions of votes. And some people still think it's your fault if you get raped.

topic is spot on, period. actually i didn't feel a shock when she shot the first guy, i just thought he won't be able to hurt anyone else in the bar and she made his wife a favor, of course after this have been referenced constantly through decades now even if you haven't seen the movie you pretty much know it, perhaps it was a shocker at the cinema in 1992 as she did that after appearing up to that point of the movie as the more mature and uptight of the two. i didn't buy the brad pitt role, but i guess he was coming up in the 1990's, still one of the girls comes off as his granma and it distracted the movie which i enjoyed up to that point, before you knew it he got his shirt off and i just thought, right, this is not for me to see, i don't know how he managed it in jail after getting picked up. everybody knows how it ends anyway since it's one of the most spoofed and famous scenes in movie history, i'll watch wayne and gart do it in waynes world instead. every role in this movie was either more or less a redneck criminal and a girl falling for them. it was also funny how after surandon had just shot a guy, she was still acting like a mother to geena davis who was being a nervous wreck after the incident. it's just another goofy obscene very famous flick, maybe it was groundbreaking somehow, or most likely i'm missing something that's picked up if you're female and this is a chick flick. i was surprised a b.b. king song was part of the soundtrack, strange to hear on a movie how they used a tune from one of his lesser known sessions in the 1970's. michael madsen looks like a baldwin brother. period.. *caugh*.. period.

There is nothing great about it, and you are fortunate to be smart enough to recognize that and say it in public. It's a couple of hours of chick revenge porn, mistaken for feminism by less-intelligent women. It's a buddy/action movie with the gimmick of featuring two women instead of two guys. It's silly, but does achieve a kind of creepiness. Real women who are strong and confident don't behave like this. To them, it's more embarrassing than empowering.
