Martin was a complete idiot.

Goodness Martin... Don't you think that if you're paranoid that your wife might be interested in another man, you could talk about it with her instead of jumping to conclusions right off the bat? Don't you think the possibility existed that she was admiring the beach or the boat itself rather than him? Everything he did to try to succeed in his goal only served to set himself up for failure.

reply

Martin was psychotic. He wasn't looking for the rationale explanations. Someone moved on "his property" so he retaliated.

reply

Are abusers typically deluded idiots though when it comes to not looking for reasonable explanations? It seems that the opinion is of that they are more psychopathic then deluded in the long wrong. In fact, Martin seemed to have talent in a few of his more questionable actions (expertise as posing as a cop to question Laura's mother, etc..) that made it seem like he was a sociopath. If so, then him hitting Laura would have been more to "teach her a lesson" rather than pure outrage, as if he planned it.

reply

Yes. Abusers are deluded. It's their way or no way.

reply

I thought he was very smart. He manages to find his wife, despite her faked death

reply

I agree

He had everyone in the nursing home eating out his hand in order in help him with his quest.

Smart. Crazy but smart

reply

I agree, it has nothing to do with his intellect, it was about asserting his control.
