Potential plot holes (Buffalo Bill)

How did buffalo bill manage to afford a single family home in a decent neighborhood when he clearly had my job? And it's not like he was running a mail order garment business out of his basemen

Also, how is it that the home just coincidentally happened to have a 20 foot deep trench with masonry walls in the basement? Did the builder offer that as an option? If it was installed afterwards, where did the dirt go? Dont you think the contractor might have a few questions, like why the hell do you need a huge well in your basement?

Not a one man job, either you're going to hit bedrock after about 12 feet or you're going to have the opposite problem with water infiltration and collapsing walls.

I vaguely recall someone mentioning that he'd inherited the home when his mother died, and God knows what happened to her!

But don't press me for details because I don't have them.

I figured Bill inherited the house from his parents along with some money. I guessed the pit had been there since the house was built and served some purpose back then. Or maybe Bill's father was building a fallout shelter back in the 1950s.

In a book on epidemiology, there was a mention of a large "cesspit" in the basement of a 19th century London rooming house, that overflowed and contaminated the local water supply with typhoid fever.
So perhaps BB's old house had been built with a cesspit in the basement? I hope not, because the house would have reeked!

And I don't think that was an old well, wells are generally deeper.

It was probably a well at one time. A very old house. And they built an addition over the well. He also had some pretty nice night Vision Goggles.
