What would've happened if the prince actually DID allow the elderly lady to stay in the castle?

And she didn't turn into a witch and curse him, everyone and his castle like that? Also, if she actually had given him that enchanted rose under those circumstances, what WOULD he use it for and what purpose WOULD it serve if in his beastly form it was simply blooming and counting the days before the last petal falls and he would be a beast for all time if he doesn't find love in time?

Or would it simply make a nice shining decoration?

Then we wouldn't have a story. It would have been done and over with in 5 minutes. There would have been no need for a curse or a magical rose timer. The fairy would have gone on her merry way and never revealed herself to the prince.

You see, the incident at the start of the film was about a very wise fairy testing the morality of a prince whose behavior had been noticed by the supernatural world for a while. The part where she turned into an ugly old lady with a rose was to test the prince out to see just what kind of character he had, and boy did he fail that test badly.

The curse was meant to teach him a lesson about being kind to others, no matter what they looked like, as well as learning to think of others before himself.

Its true. But I also wondered, besides there not being a movie and a story, that if somehow that Prince and his servants ultimately didn't mind to let the lady stay as such and the prince accepted the rose, because the rose was magical, what would it do then when there is no curse, as in, what purpose would it serve, would it just glow and look good or would it do something more with its supernatural abilities?

I've read stories like this many times, where sometimes, an older, wiser fairy observes a troublesome human for a time, and decides on how to deal with them in the best way possible. She probably had a good idea how the prince was going to react to her as a poor old lady or to a simple gift of a flower, but she tested him anyway, knowing he would fail. Fairies never give "gifts" to humans in these tales without a good reason. If you read stories about the Fae, you'll find they can either be kind or treacherous (most often the latter) so the Prince kinda got off "easy" in this story.

If he had let her in, she would probably have rewarded him.
