So basically Stockholm Syndrome with Beastiality!
What?
shareThis movie is like the cleaned up kid's version of Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!, Bus Stop, and all the other Hollywood and Arthouse movies pushing that "Sociopathic Kidnapper with a Heart of Gold" trope. I can only think about all the little girls who wound up in abusive relationships being informed by this stupid movie. "He'll change, eventually...I just need to have faith in him, like Belle..." *tear rolls down from blackened eye down busted cheek*
Realistically speaking, Beast was so far gone when he met Belle that he would've raped the shit out of her before tearing her apart and turning her into a stuffed trophy or throwing her carcass out the window. I love how stupid movies like this think that just because it's a kid's film that they don't have to adhere to some semblance of reality. You can't have a cartoon character express that level of pent-up rage and always be on the cusp of doing something rash before controlling himself. That's not how it plays out in real life.
Not really. There are really dumb people that jump to conclusions about that over this film.
If Belle truly had Stockholm Syndrome, she would have suffered a lot more abuse at the hands of the Beast than she actually did, and she would have let her dad die in the woods, rather than run off and rescue him.
The beastiality idea is stupid because there was no sex between her and the Beast.
Its a joke post.
sharePeople mock what they don't understand.
There's an entire sub-genre of porn called "furry", by the way. People into "furry" culture tried flying under the radar by pretending that they were just fans of cartoon animals and art, but the obscene levels of sexually graphic Rule 34 artwork flooding the interwebs says otherwise. I would post links, but I can't. Do a search, but make sure to have a vomit bag handy.
Remember, if it exists, then there’ll be porn of it.
shareOk.
shareReally dumb people are the ones who don't recognize age-old tropes in movies and just accepts films at face value.
They're also ones who don't realize that just because something is fictional, it doesn't mean it doesn't have parallels in real life.
I was privy to a situation similar to the "relationship" in this movie, where the guy kept terrorizing his GF, would have a moment of guilt and remorse (even cry). The GF would then run back to him, seeing this as a sign that he was a "nice guy, really" and worth saving. Then he'd terrorize her again. Wash, rinse, repeat. People are calling the movie Stockholm Syndrome for this very reason. It parallels real life relationships too closely.
Except that is not what happens in this story.
Belle planned to leave and made it clear that she wouldn't accept bad behavior from Beast in the future.
And I know that most relationships that start out bad will remain bad in real life.
Believe me, my brother is in a toxic relationship and taught me what they look like.
But it wasn't like Belle even was in a relationship with Beast until he had improved and become a human again.
So I must say that there are many nuances in this story, that we should remember before we criticize it...
Belle planned to leave and made it clear that she wouldn't accept bad behavior from Beast in the future.
I don't remember him threatening to kill her father?
I only remember him putting Maurice in the dungeon...
Now, they were not in a relationship until Beast had changed his ways and become a human again.
That is very important to remember here.
Also, Belle was never going to accept that he was aggessive towards her again.
But I must point out that even at his worst, he yelled at her and scared her but didn't physically harm her.
Yeah, you can argue that Beast never would have changed for the better in real life.
But as far as this story goes, he learned to control his temper and never was aggressive towards Belle again.
That is real progress even though I agree that many men in real life wouldn't be able to do what he did.
It is a fairytale though, and we shouldn't forget that he was under a spell and it doesn’t have to be all realistic.
But it was never about an abusive relationship, since Belle was never going to accept that...
Lol, yes, people are silly.
