Surely he could do stuff that while may not get him as rich as he was but better off than living in the slums. For example he could do commentary, tell autobiography, movie cameos and commercials, personal appearances, work out videos, could maybe even sell his life story to some network like Lifetime or any B movie producer.
shareNot really, but it works. After coming off such a big international win he could have easily done some marketing, advertising, or commentary on a number of shows or matches to make ends meet. I'm not saying he would have been rich, but probably could have easily gotten six figures doing some of that. Also, I know that he wasn't originally good at advertising, as referenced in Rocky II, but this is Rocky V where he could read/write and was well past being "civilized". He goes back to the slums because that is home to both him and Adrian.
