Cape Fear (1991) vs Misery (1990)

which is better?

reply

Both good, but Misery, by far. Cape Fear was just a little bit too Scorcese.

Good description.

I really like Cape Fear but Scrosese’s fingerprints are all over it, as with all his films. In most cases that’s a great thing, but when you’re watching a genre film sometimes the Reiner approach is better - the director is invisible and the performances and story do all the work.

reply

I have only seen each film once. I didn't like Cape Fear, I found it unintentionally funny at times. The one with Gregory Peck is much better.
Misery was disappointing but it had some decent moments, I liked it more than Cape Fear. Bates won an Oscar for Misery but I think the film Dolores Claiborne was much better and so was her performance.

reply

Dolores Claiborne was such a fantastic movie. Better than both, IMO.

reply

Oh, I had completely forgotten Dolores Claiborne. Great film, must watch it again!

And Misery is better than Cape Fear.

reply

Misery, because Cape Fear is overwrought garbage.
