Why wasn't Kevin in Home Alone 3?

I mean he was in Home Alone 4 with a different actor. Why wasn't he in Home Alone 3 with a different actor?

reply

He told them to pound sand. He said not doing it again and to suck a thing. He said I’m not doing the paint can thing no no I’ve had enough paint can. Then he got 7 million for the ted damson roller coaster movie

I believe somebody answered this in another post, but Macaulay Culkin took a sabbatical from 1994 - 2003. He quit acting for nine years, hence why he had no part in the third film.

John Hughes was more than likely obligated to make the Home Alone franchise a trilogy. Since he couldn't get Mack, they probably just hired some other kid and changed the characters around. Either that or, if Mack was still acting, I doubt he would be young enough to stay at home by himself. I mean the guy was probably at that age where he could babysit part-time.

As for the fourth TV movie...I couldn't tell ya. Hughes wasn't involved, no original actors, and it took place in 2002 when cell phones were starting to be used by ordinary people. Seemed like they were trying to reboot it but failed miserably.

Did you enjoy Home Alone 3 and 4 as much as 1 and 2? Personally I did not. Did you?

reply

I never bothered with the third, fourth, and even the fifth. Most I came close to was watching reviews of it by YouTube content creators.

I meant why couldn't they use a different actor to play Kevin?

reply

I dunno maybe because he was 17 years old? When i was 17 i was praying to be left Home Alone so i could beat my meat and smoke dope

When Macaulay Culkin declined to reprise his role as Kevin for the third outing, John Hughes briefly considered writing the screenplay with Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern reprising their roles as burglars Harry and Marv, respectively, who target Kevin's cousin Fuller (Macaulay's real-ife brother Kieran), and Fuller would be the main character, with Gerry Bamman and Terrie Snell reprising their roles and Fuller's parents Frank and Leslie, respectively, who go on vacation and leave Fuller home alone, to defend himself against Marv and Harry. The idea was scrapped, as Pesci and Stern refused to reprise their roles, and wanted to pursue other projects, and Kieran felt he couldn't follow in his brother's footsteps as the lead. Hughes then wrote an entirely different screenplay with no characters from the first two films.

Makes total sense. Do you think it would be appealing to bring back the same characters with different actors?

reply

No, I've seen Home Alone 4.

reply

what do you mean?

reply

I mean it failed miserably when they actually did it.

reply

In other words to bring Kevin's character back with a different actor just wouldn't work. Did I get it right?

reply

Right. There's no point.

reply

The actor was too old for the part by this point (1997)
