did McClane really have to shoot the blanks at Lorenzo?

I mean he could have got shot for doing such a stupid thing.

He could have shot the roof or the floor

Why couldn't John just tell Lorenzo that Col. Stuart's crew were using blanks instead of being so dramatic and carelessly putting his own life at risk? Was it because Lorenzo was so obtuse to what John was trying to tell him?

reply

Because Lorenzo is of Italian descent. Spaghetti munchers aren't the most clever people so John simply HAD to shoot the blanks to convince that fat spaghetti meatball.

Why do Stuart's gang need to use blanks in the first place? They pretty much staged a huge shootout at the church to fool John McClane and one or two other people. Why not just save the trouble and kill them instead of putting on this elaborate charade?

Grant wanted to keep up appearances that his platoon would take down Stuart and his men. Thus neither Stuart nor Grant would have to worry about airport security or anyone else trying to stop them.

It would be quite suspicious if McClane, Lorenzo, and any other "good guys" nearby just happened to all be killed during a shootout between Grant's men and those of Colonel Stuart.

Instead, Grant assumed the onlookers would return to the airport saying that the bad guys are on the run and Grant's platoon is going after them. Which is what happened, and would have been successful if not for McClane finding out that the guns were shooting blanks.
