Seasons 1 and 2 rated

In the process of rewatching the original TP (and FWWM) before launching into S3/The Return/Limited Event for the first time. Trying not to let nostalgia colour my thinking.

Pilot ~ 8/10

Season 1;
Ep 1 ~ 8/10
Ep 2 ~ 8/10
Ep 3 ~ 7/10
Ep 4 ~ 7/10
Ep 5 ~ 8/10
Ep 6 ~ 8/10
Ep 7 ~ 8/10

Still has that wonderful feeling of 'high strangeness'. I love the cast. Even the few weaker members still work, just adding more to that 'soap opera' feeling. Beautiful locations. Some of the story elements aren't gripping me as much as they did (the sawmill arson plot?!). But it's holding up pretty well so far.

Overall, 7.5/10

Season 2;
Ep 1 ~ 6/10
Ep 2 ~ 7/10
Ep 3~ 7/10
Ep 4 ~ 8/10
Ep 5 ~ 8/10
Ep 6 ~ 8/10
Ep 7 ~ 9/10
Ep 8 ~ 9/10
Ep 9 ~ 10/10
Ep10 ~ 9/10
Ep11 ~ 7/10
Ep12 ~ 6/10
Ep13 ~ 5/10
Ep14 ~ 8/10
Ep15 ~ 5/10
Ep16 ~ 6/10
Ep17 ~ 6/10
Ep18 ~ 8/10
Ep19 ~ 7/10
Ep20 ~ 6/10
Ep21 ~ 7/10
Ep22 ~ 8/10

Takes a few episodes to get going, but soon hits its stride and stays there up until the midway point. Then it takes a dive. There are still some good episodes, but God there is some dross here. The finale still holds up pretty well (good to see Lynch back). I've never been able to get the image/sound of Laura Palmer screaming out of my head - and after rewatching this I'm pretty sure I never will!

Overall, 7.3/10

FWWM next, then onto Season 3...

Season two was a roller coaster; I wish they had gotten rid of James and never introduced the guy with the secret diary (and what the heck, secret diary? Lazy writing).

Season Two really sucks once they catch Laura Palmer's killer.

But the Black Lodge scenes in Season Two's finale make up for it.

I've come to enjoy the lesser elements of Season 2 over the years, though not all (here's looking at you Evelyn Marsh), but I mostly love the Windom Earle character and the collision course he's on with Dale Cooper.

And that last episode is so good it makes Season 2 worth it no matter what came before.

Did you ever watch Season 3?

8/10 for the pilot?

Complimentary rating no doubt. But I think the pilot is as strong as it gets until the very last episode of Season 2.

Not taking season 3 into consideration here, just the "original run" episodes.
