What is Gods name

I noticed near the end when the book is forming the letters of Gods Name you can almost read what it says. I cant tell for sure since i couldnt pause it right but it look like it says "Rokisha" or something. Wonder Why?

reply

Ronsha. "ye i know thee: Ahsnor!"

reply

Okay...and what is the significance of that?

"If you don't know the answer -change the question."

reply

Remember, all he has to do to unmake creation is learn the true name of God, utter it backwards and we are no more.

reply

Sort of like the way Superman defeated Mr. Mxyxpxlyx by getting him to say his name backwards...?

I remember that in an episode of Superfriends! Awesome call bok602!

I think that's the whole idea -- you "almost know" God's name.

And the whole premise behind the name of God is that, in pre-biblical texts, the name of God, when spoken, made the universe whole. Sort of the idea that once God separated him/herself from the Void, that everything followed. So naturally the name has great power and to say it means you can control the universe.

Thanks for asking!

Sincerely,

God.

reply

God.... Dog?

AHhh! Wait, no!

POOF

reply

Just LOL!

It looed like robert to me when it was spelling out in the book

reply

Oh right. I was wondering why the world ended 13 years ago.

reply

I first watched this with by boyfriend (now husband) when it came out in 1989 and the name of god started to spell out and it was R...k...sh and I shouted "its you Rakesh!" That's his name. Its a very popular Indian name.

reply

Just as a curiosuty, in the spanish-dubbed version it is the secret name of SATAN -not God- who would be able to destroy all the universe, and the one who almost appears on the book at the end

reply

Satan? But that makes no sense. Why would Satan send the Warlock to find the name of Satan? Couldn't Satan just say, "Hey, my name is _____. Say it backwards and we're done here."

???

Of course, in Spanish-speaking countries they take their God stuff very seriously, and perhaps this was done to avoid blaspheming.

Anyway, it's an interesting fact. Thanks for sharing.

reply

No, you're wrong about blasphemy in Spain. Many people would probably be very offended if I told you about swearings in Spanish. There would be no problem with that. In fact, the more offensive against religion a movie is, probably the more chances it has of being a success in the box office. "The Da Vinci Code" was a very depressive success here

Spoiler Alert!!! ----------

In fact, when the Grimoire is finally complete and the letters appear, Warlock says: "I know you!! I know your name!!". In the Spanish version, you automatically asume that the face forming in the sky, among all the clouds and the storm, is Satan's

reply

Everyone knows God's name is Dave.

reply

Dave's not here, man.

How can satan cast out satan!

just don't say it backwards.

reply

Based on the writing on the book, looks like it was about to spell "Robert". Which can't be right, as everybody knows it's Harold.

"Our Father, who art in Heaven, Harold be thy name..."
