why does Peter Weller's character say that one liner to the creature at the end?

So why does Peter Weller even say that odd line at the end where he throws the dynamite at the creature by saying "Say hi, motherfucker"?

Did Peter Weller come up with that or were they just trying to copy the MacReady moment from The Thing?

reply

Because one-liners were pretty much standard in all 80s action movies. They were practically a requirement.

reply

yep & people used to love them.

reply

Yeah, even if was a pretty straightforward one like that. You had to say something when you killed the bad guy.

reply

He says “Say ahh, motherfucker!”

Which is what doctors say when they want you to open your mouth. He wanted the creature to open its mouth so he could throw the grenade into it. Silly, but that’s what he says & why.

reply

well if the amphibian creature was absorbing human DNA then it would have become smart and then Peter Weller's character would have a big problem out in sea.

He ain't MacReady

reply

Probly copying Roy Schieder

"Smile you sonofabitch!"

reply

He says it because it's a throwback to JAWS when Chief Brody said "Smile you sonofa-BOOM!!!!" and back then that was quite the crowd pleaser, so they thought they could replicate it so 30 Years down the road, the new generation could complain about it
