He was getting screwed with his car repair bill.

$302 in 1955 would equal $3,257.87 today.

For a repair job that was strictly cosmetic and nothing mechanical, that would be way too much. Yes, I know it was full of horse shit, but once you got rid of all that (just take the car to wherever the truck was going) then it's mostly just a very throughout cleaning and detailing job which even today would not be $100. Being a convertible should somewhat help with the smell. And Biff mentioned a couple of dents, which would not have been an expensive repair. Even if the old man did charge $80 just to tow it away (also way too much), there's no way that bill comes out that high.

And if Biff really wanted to save some money, he could have driven it himself to get rid of the manure, then dropped it off to get fixed and cleaned.

Maybe he wasn't.

Dents (+Paint), Towing, Extensive Cleaning.

Depending on the severity of the dents they can either fix them... or actually have to replace that whole car's dented section by ordering a brand new bumper - door - hood - whatever was damaged.

I believe those parts arrive without paint.

So they would have to take off the damaged section... prepare the new one (professional auto paint job), then replace it.

The car's interior was filled with manure. They probably couldn't just clean-vacuum it. No matter what products they used there would still be a TERRIBLE smell. They most likely had to take apart whole sections (including the seats... to be able to reach every corner of the interior) I wouldn't discard extensive re-upholstery of seats and interior.

There was no need for new panels.

All they had to do was remove the seats both to access and clean the cars interior and to clean the seats better.
Even if they needed a re-upholster It should be less than $3,000

I would have sold it.

Because no matter how clean the car looks, it won't stop the hundreds of ball busting nicknames his peers will come up with.

"There's that shitbox Ford!"
"The Thunderturd!"
"Here comes a load of shit"
"Mustangs revenge"
"The manure-o-matic"
